SAN JOSE, Calif., Sept. 12, 2012 — (PRNewswire) — Xilinx, Inc. (NASDAQ: XLNX) will feature the advantages of its All Programmable technologies for carrier-class optical networking at the Carrier Ethernet World Congress 2012 in Barcelona, Spain. Demonstrations of Xilinx's product portfolio for Carrier Ethernet applications delivering system integration for the next-generation networks of carrier grade high-bandwidth communication platforms with 40G to 400G high port density will be highlighted.

What:

Carrier Ethernet World Congress 2012

Where:

Hotel Fira Palace, Barcelona, Spain, Stand #19 Exhibition Hall, Stand 14

When:

September 17 – 20, 2012

Xilinx technology experts and business executives will be in attendance to discuss strategic opportunities for all major communications market segments including Access, Metro, Mobile Backhaul, Enterprise and Data Center. Carrier Ethernet solutions for packet processing, traffic management and high-speed connectivity will be shown, as well as a demonstration of the high-end, 28nm Virtex®-7 X690T FPGA.

"Xilinx's All Programmable platforms deliver on the power and performance needs that today's carriers want to meet increasing customer demands," said Gilles Garcia, director of the Xilinx wired communications group. "With our extensive product portfolio of advanced Carrier Ethernet solutions, including Zynq™-7000 All Programmable SoCs combined with an extensive IP core library from Xilinx and our ecosystem of companies plus our Virtex, Kintex™ and Artix™ FPGA families, we are positioned to deliver ideal, targeted solutions to lower total cost of ownership for next-generation networks and address cost reduction targets of current designs."

Stand Demonstrations

Committed to providing wired-optimized platforms that satisfy low to high volume designs, Xilinx® All Programmable solutions are easily adaptable to the rapidly changing market standards in the communications marketplace. Xilinx demonstrations focusing on platforms that accelerate development of key Carrier Ethernet functional elements include:

  • Xilinx Per-Flow Traffic Manager Demonstration for Carrier Ethernet Applications A granular per-flow QoS implementation with a single FPGA on the ML631 Evaluation Kit for packet processing (PP) and traffic management (TM) will be demonstrated. This Xilinx advanced traffic management technology is scalable across Virtex-6, Virtex-7 and Kintex-7 families. It enables harmonization of single system QoS framework across various market segments and any port rate and features a unified API, flexible memory selection and design partitioning between internal BRAM and external memories that supports all DDR3, RLDIII, QDRII+ and serial memory.
  • IEEE 1588v2 OC/BC Timing Demonstration using Xilinx All Programmable FPGAs – See IPClock's implementation of their IPC400 and IPC300e evaluation platforms demonstrating 1588v2 Ordinary Clock/Boundry Clock (OC/BC) IP cores on Xilinx FPGAs. This fully tested and validated 1588v2 solution addresses network-based timing and synchronization issues, while leveraging cost-effective Internet Protocol (IP) networks that handle the increased 3G and 4G bandwidth requirements. The 1588v2 IP cores are easily integrated with other Xilinx IP cores within the same FPGA, thus reducing time-to-market and lowering total BOM cost for the customer.
  • PWE3 implementation using Xilinx All Programmable FPGAs – Xilinx Premier Xilinx Alliance Program Member, CXT will show their PWE3 implementation utilizing Xilinx FPGAs on their board connected and carrying live T1/E1 traffic over Ethernet. The configurations simplify overall board design, thus lowering total cost of ownership (TCO) and provide a time-to-market advantage. The flexibility and easy integration of Xilinx All Programmable FPGAs and SoCs with other IP blocks from the ecosystem reduces the overall BOM cost and is a key component of implementing Carrier Ethernet technology.
  • Virtex-7 X690T FPGA Backplane and Optical Demonstration for Carrier Ethernet Solutions This demonstration of the Virtex-7 X690T FPGA features 80 GTH serial transceivers operating at 13.1 Gb/s over a 10GBASE-KR backplane and surpasses the 2 Tb/s bandwidth barrier. Showing 10G Base LR optics over 10KM fiber, the Virtex-7 X690T devices support up to 1000 SelectIO™ interface pins needed to support the memory bandwidth required by high-speed packet processing and traffic management applications. Built on TSMC's 28nm high-performance, low power manufacturing process, the Virtex-7 devices deliver 25 percent lower total power than competitive solutions.

Embracing Convergence at the Network Edge – Enabling Differentiation in Multiservice Carrier Ethernet Implementations

Xilinx product marketing manager, wired communications, Atul Shinde, will discuss how Xilinx All Programmable technologies address and solve the challenges of service providers to monetize their investment in network infrastructure. Xilinx technology enables service providers to add differentiation to their network migration strategies. This results in them being able to offer profitable services and reduce complexity, thus optimizing the network edge by lowering total cost of ownership.

"The Carrier Ethernet equipment market continues to grow strongly. By 2016, we project the equipment revenue to grow to a little over $42.4 billion," stated Michael Howard, principal analyst for carrier networks at Infonetics Research. "Some market segments are growing faster while others are slowing faster than we originally anticipated. The largest downward changes are in the Ethernet microwave and VDSL equipment segments, and the largest upward change is in the hot Carrier Ethernet switch segment."
