HDOT Simplifies Maintenance Process of Managing Temporal Components of Multilevel Linear Referencing System for Roadway Network

HUNTSVILLE, Ala., March 30, 2011 — (PRNewswire) — During the later part of 2010, The Hawaii Department of Transportation (HDOT) selected and implemented Intergraph's Multilevel Linear Referencing System (MLRS) to improve the process of maintaining the department's digital highway network data.

HDOT's Highways Division is responsible for planning, design, construction, and maintenance operations.

With Intergraph's Commercial Off-The-Shelf (COTS) MLRS solution, HDOT can manage the complexities of its existing temporal MLRS data model while taking advantage of COTS tools to manage the data representing the LRS network.  HDOT can utilize and exploit multiple location referencing methods (LRMs) to geospatially locate roadway information for analysis and to seamlessly transform event data between referencing methods saving time and avoiding costly data-conversion errors.

Using Intergraph's COTS based solution; HDOT can automatically calibrate endpoints and breaks on the base network while also calculating mile points for breaks in the roadway event data.  Intergraph's automated calibration tools and datum aware MLRS editing tools enable HDOT user' to quickly make network adjustments and identify changes in the event data associated with the modified network sections.  These calculated mile point changes can then be used to update the event data values if desired.

Intergraph previously helped HDOT implement their GIS Portal with the integration of its information technologies, such as relational database management systems, geographic information systems (GIS), Internet mapping, and global positioning systems (GPS).

"The transportation software from Intergraph is integrated with the Highways GIS Portal, so less time is spent moving data between the two environments," said Goro Sulijoadikusumo, HDOT's planning survey section manager. "Also, the roadway information system is integrated with the traffic monitoring system. This results in less duplication in data entry and more consistent reporting results."

The solution is built using Intergraph's GeoMedia® software suite, including GeoMedia Transportation and GeoMedia Fusion. The GeoMedia product suite is a set of well-integrated applications that provide a wide range of geospatial processing capabilities for the transportation market.

"Intergraph offers a comprehensive range of interoperable geospatially powered software to manage and secure transportation infrastructure and data," said Steve Powers, Intergraph's general manager for Government and Transportation. "With Intergraph's transportation solutions, transportation agencies can streamline operations, maintain compliance with federal regulations and improve safety and driving conditions for motorists by quickly addressing potential issues through faster, more informed decision-making."
