St. Vincent Electricity Services Ltd Utilizes GTG to Move Forward with GIS Initiatives

March 02, 2010 -- GOLDSBORO, N.C. – Geographic Technologies Group (GTG) recently assisted St. Vincent Electric Services Ltd (VINLEC) in taking a step forward with their GIS initiatives.

To assist VINLEC with moving forward, GTG identified areas of improvement and developed a plan of action. GTG assisted VINLEC with acquiring a new server to house their GIS infrastructure. GTG then built an operating system from the ground up, assisted them in upgrading to the latest ArcGIS Server platform, implemented Geo Blade Viewer, assisted with integrating the new infrastructure with existing databases, and provided customized training to staff.

Geo Blade Viewer is a powerful GIS viewer application that allows local government agencies to easily query and analyze GIS data. Designed to be used by all staff, the core viewer application was designed for the end user and provides a set of GIS tools in an easy-to-use desktop application. Tools include portal setups, automatic mining of data from any record management system, and hot linking.

To bring the VINLEC staff up to speed with their newly implemented solutions, GTG provided customized training on the basics of ArcGIS Server administration and administrative training on Geo Blade Viewer. GTG also provided training on customized advanced GIS data editing techniques as well as training on how to integrate ArcGIS Server, ArcSDE, and Geo Blade Viewer with one another.

Damon Belvin, Technical Support Manager for GTG, went on-site to implement the solutions as well as to provide training to the VINLEC staff. “Due to its location in the Caribbean, VINLEC is a unique organization with unique needs,” said Belvin. “GTG was able to help VINLEC enter the digital era. We implemented a state-of-the-art ArcGIS infrastructure allowing them to move forward with their GIS and mapping initiatives.”

Upgrading to ArcGIS Server 9.3.1 and implementing Geo Blade Viewer will provide a Return on Investment for VINLEC. They will be able to visualize their client database and utility infrastructure spatially enabling them to be more effective and efficient.
