October 26, 2009 --
Sescoi will be demonstrating the complete manufacturing process for dental crowns, bridges, custom abutments and model building with partner companies Dental Wings and 360SDM at Dentech China 2009, Shanghai at booth U88-89.
The DWOS design modules are Dental Wings’ software solutions for designing dental restorations. The DWOS solution and the Sescoi WorkNC® solution are now integrated for optimum ease of use. The process starts with an impression scanned by one of Dental Wings’ non-contact 3D laser scanners: iSeries (impression scanner) or 5Series (flagship high productivity scanner). The scan data is then used to generate a digital model from the impression with the DWOS Virtual Model Design software (DWOS-VMD). The virtual model is then used in DWOS design modules to generate the desired prosthesis design. Next both the completed design and the digital model are both ready for programming in Sescoi’s WorkNC Dental automatic CAM software that is integrated into the DWOS-CAM module. The process is completed by machining both the completed restorations and their model in 4 or 5-axis on 360SDM’s EZ-Mill400 and EZ-Mill500 laboratory milling machines.
Scans and designs generated from Dental Wings allow the technician to accurately capture the clinical information and ensure that an optimum dental restoration is produced. The DWOS software is a comprehensive dental solution that includes: anatomy and framework design (with anatomy overpress on copings), customizable anatomy libraries, telescopic unit design, custom abutment design with automatic coping and crown generation and virtual model generation from scanned data. The scanning technologies include: 5Series and 3Series model scanning from single to full arch with multi-die scan and design capabilities (5Series up to 16 dies, the 3Series up to 6 dies) and the iSeries impression scanner for silicon or alginate-based impressions.
WorkNC Dental takes the finished designs or models and automatically nests them into the blank disc to maximize utilization of the materials used in dentistry and minimize waste. Auto-generated support pins locate the crown or bridge for machining. Automatic cutting wizards are then applied that rough, semi finish, and finish the prosthesis. Each material type, such as zirconia, titanium or chrome cobalt, has its own specific automatic machining wizard, optimized to produce the ideal cutting conditions.
In the case of zirconia, the software is able to allow for shrinkage in the baking process. For chrome cobalt, 5-axis high-speed machining techniques enable very short tools to be used while the smooth cutting strategies produce a high quality finish and low tool loads. WorkNC Dental has the ability to rapidly and simply identify and define the margin line where accurate fitting to the gum profile is important for dental hygiene. Additionally it can automatically recognize the orientation of holes on abutments for automatic drilling.
Ease of use is of vital importance to dental technicians, who may not be familiar with CNC machining. WorkNC Dental is fully automatic, its orientation and nesting tools combined with the machining wizards to make a system that is unique in its simplicity of operation, enabling users to produce reliable collision free programs in minutes.
High-speed machining on the 360SDM machines completes the process, resulting in the production of high quality, accurate prostheses in the shortest possible time. The 5-axis machining capability enables undercuts to be machined, and consideration of the physical limits of the machine by the WorkNC Dental software guarantees parts, whether in soft zirconia or hard chrome cobalt, are produced right first time.
The collaboration between Sescoi, Dental Wings and 360SDM brings a powerful and affordable solution within the reach and capabilities of most dental laboratories. The production of frameworks, crowns and bridges makes up a large proportion of the dental market, so the ability to produce them in a reliable, simple and open system is essential. WorkNC Dental software will be demonstrated on the Sescoi and partner booths at the DENTECH show.
