Bentley Systems Marks 25 Years of Sustaining Infrastructure at Be Inspired: Infrastructure Best Practices Symposium and Awards
Pennsylvania Governor Rendell, the United States’ Leading Advocate for Infrastructure Investment, Congratulates Bentley for its Cumulative Global Accomplishments
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Be Inspired: Infrastructure Best Practices Symposium and Awards – Oct. 13, 2009 – At this invitation-only gathering of top users from around the globe, Bentley Systems, Incorporated, observed its 25th year as a company dedicated to providing comprehensive software solutions for the infrastructure that sustains our world. The milestone was first acknowledged in the company’s May 2009 annual report, which is available online at
www.bentley.com/AnnualReport.
CEO Greg Bentley and CTO and founder Keith Bentley opened the morning keynote sessions by presenting an engaging dialog that included a retrospective on Bentley Systems’ first 25 years, followed by their perspectives on current innovations in technology and business practices that are driving success in information modeling for intelligent infrastructure. They concluded with their priorities for innovations that will become the future drivers of success.
Early in his presentation, CEO Greg Bentley relayed the following congratulatory comments from Pennsylvania Governor Edward G. Rendell, who is a leading spokesman for the importance of infrastructure and co-chair of the new Building America’s Future coalition: “As a longtime proponent of the importance of infrastructure to our nation’s competitiveness in the global marketplace, I am pleased to congratulate Bentley Systems, along with the five founding Bentley brothers, on the occasion of its 25 years in business.”
Governor Rendell’s comments continued, “From its start at the University City Science Center in Philadelphia in 1984 to its stature today as a $500 million provider of software for the design, construction, and operations of infrastructure, Bentley has demonstrated that Pennsylvania is fertile ground for growing businesses.”
Reflecting on Bentley’s 25 years of steady growth, founder and CTO Keith Bentley said, “For me, what distinguishes Bentley Systems is our long-term collaboration with the professionals and organizations who achieve so much in improving the quality of life for us all, through the projects they design, construct, and operate. I’m proud that our software has helped to empower them over the past 25 years.”
As part of his perspective, Greg Bentley expressed gratification to infrastructure professionals who have chosen Bentley Systems’ offerings, whom he said have made Bentley the acknowledged global software leader in each of building energy performance, structural engineering, water modeling, road and transit design, bridge engineering, and construction simulation. External market rankings that Mr. Bentley referenced included:
• #1 in GIS/geospatial architectural, engineering and construction (AEC) software, per Daratech, Inc.
• #1 provider of plant creation software to owner-operators, per Daratech, Inc.
• #2 in architecture, engineering, construction, and operations software sales, per Daratech, Inc.
• Empowering, through its software subscription programs, all of the top 20 design firms in communications, general building, industrial process/petroleum, power, transportation, and water (and 86 percent of the Top 500 Design Firms and Top 150 Global Design Firms), per Engineering News-Record/McGraw-Hill Construction.
Looking ahead, Mr. Bentley said, “To enhance sustainability for our global economy and environment, the world’s infrastructure community is leading the way, through intelligent infrastructure investment opportunities. By applying information modeling, which leverages society’s ‘digital infrastructure’ investments to date, we are together achieving higher returns with lower risks, enabling our users’ projects and the assets they create to perform better. The resulting intelligent infrastructure will sustain renewed growth in economic activity and productivity, more cleanly and safely.
“It is wonderful to ‘Be Inspired’ by the information modeling innovations and best practices being presented and shared here in Charlotte.”
Keith Bentley added, “With all my Bentley colleagues, I enthusiastically look forward into the next 25 years. We’ve never been more optimistic about Bentley Systems’ contributions. Our software helps our users make infrastructure investments more intelligent, rewarding, and sustainable. To me, there’s no higher calling.”
