Learn to Use ArcGIS Online from ESRI

ESRI Live Training Seminar Will Explain How to Get Started Sharing Maps, Creating Web Maps, and More

Redlands, California — October 05, 2009 — More and more, people who work with maps and other geographic data want to share and collaborate online. To help them do this, ESRI launched ArcGIS Online, a Web-based repository where users can find and share geographic content.

This month, ESRI will host a live training seminar to demonstrate how to get started using this new resource. Sharing Your Maps Using ArcGIS Online will air at www.esri.com/lts on Thursday, October 8, 2009, at 9:00 a.m., 11:00 a.m., and 3:00 p.m. (Pacific daylight time). The online seminar is free to anyone who wants to learn how to use the application. No geographic information system (GIS) or programming skills are required.

ArcGIS Online, hosted by ESRI, provides users with high-quality geographic content such as map services, GIS tasks, and Web mapping APIs, along with a collaborative environment for sharing their work.

ArcGIS Online lets users find or share maps, map services, map layers, layer packages, and GIS tools. They also can create and share Web maps online through the built-in map viewer application. Groups are forming on the site with specialties in areas such as conservation, petroleum, archaeology, and energy. Members of these groups are sharing geographic content related to those fields.

Viewers of the live training seminar will learn how to use ArcGIS Online to find, create, manage, and share maps, map layers, and Web mapping applications. They also will learn how to create Web maps and add map layers. The presenter will demonstrate how to create a group, upload resources to share with the group, and download resources for use in ESRI’s ArcGIS Desktop software and ArcGIS Explorer.

A broadband Internet connection and an ESRI Global Account are needed to watch the seminar. Creating a global account is easy and free: visit www.esri.com/lts, click Login, and register your name and address. A few weeks after the live presentation, the seminar will be archived and available for viewing on the ESRI Training Web site.
