Marin County Finds a Greener and Less Costly Process for Building Plan Reviews and Inspections Using Capturx Software for Digital Pens

SEATTLE, WA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- Sep 16, 2009 -- Adapx ( www.adapx.com) today announced that the Marin County Building and Safety division is using Capturx for Autodesk Design Review and Capturx Forms for Excel to streamline the building plan submission, review and inspection process of over 1,200 building plans a year. Bill Kelly, Deputy Directory of Building Safety and Community Development for Marin County, as well as Phil Cohen PhD, Founder and Executive Vice President of Adapx, will present the Marin County workflow with Capturx at the 46th annual conference and business meeting of the County Building Officials Association of California on Thursday, September 17 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. PT at the Madonna Inn in San Luis Obispo, CA.

The presentation will describe how Capturx is used to help reduce redundant work and wasteful procedures in the Marin County permit and construction process. Building permits were often reviewed multiple times by numerous departments before final sets of plans were approved. In many cases, individual departments would have their own sets of notes, plan markups, and checklists of code violations. When they became inconsistent or out of sync, applicants became confused and the process slowed down.

With Capturx for Autodesk Design Review, the building plan reviewers can instantly digitize handwritten markups on plans using a digital pen. As reviewers write on the standard paper copy, they get normal ink markups plus a digital copy recorded on the pen. The notes are automatically integrated into the electronic copies of the building plans, for immediate sharing and coordination without scanning or making copies. Applicants can receive a single electronic copy of all the markups and department code violations, streamlining the review process and speeding project approval.

"Through the use of Capturx, Marin County is improving our e-government and customer service capabilities, furthering our sustainability goals by reducing paper, and creating workflow efficiencies," said Brian C. Crawford, A.I.C.P. Director of Marin Community Development Agency.

Capturx Forms for Excel enables the team to share immediate visibility on projects. Inspection cards are printed with Capturx and then filled out with the digital pen on construction sites. The builders get a paper record on site and the data is automatically recorded and synced with Excel files back at the planning office. As a result, stakeholders no longer get the false assumption that projects are on smooth paths to completion based on their out of sync copy of the inspection cards only to find issues later which delay projects and create extra work.
