Azteca Systems Solidifies its Dedication to the Environment with Continuing Green Efforts

Eco-Friendliness Proves a Priority for Company and its Team Members

March 17, 2009 -- Sandy, UT — A company long dedicated to the environment, Azteca Systems announced today that it has further extended its efforts to be eco-friendly, officially “going green”. The leading provider of GIS-centric asset maintenance management systems, Azteca and many of its employees have taken multiple steps in becoming more and more environmentally conscious over the years and have made recent strides in doing so.

Azteca Systems and its staff contribute to bettering the environment through many different avenues, both on larger and individual scales. Recently recognized by Rocky Mountain Power for supporting renewable energy, Azteca received a certificate stating that in 2008 the company avoided the release of 1,454 pounds of carbon dioxide. Azteca has switched light bulbs at company headquarters to CFC lights, a new compact florescent alternative that use less energy and lasts longer than traditional bulbs. Recycling has long been in practice at Azteca where everything from paper, cardboard, aluminum cans, and plastic is recycled. Paper and cardboard are taken to local schools for recycling which contributes to school fundraising efforts. Under the supervision of Wayne Hill, Director of Client Support, Azteca has switched to online documentation, eliminating tens of thousands of printed paper used for manuals each year.

For the past three years Azteca has purchased annual public transportation passes for each member of its staff, making it possible for employees to utilize the TRAX Light Rail and local public transit system to commute to and from work and for other transportation needs. In addition, Azteca has installed shower facilities on-site to encourage staff in riding bikes, running, and walking to work. Reed Hayes, Senior Client Support Manager at Azteca Systems, rides the bus and TRAX to work year-round, along with a number of other staff members, and incorporates riding his bike into his routine during the summer. Ryan Miller, Programmer at Azteca Systems, rides his bike to work nearly every day.

“I enjoy riding my bike to work and I realize the benefits it contributes to the environment as well as my personal fitness,” states Miller. “It’s these small efforts we make in doing our part in bettering the environment. I’m very impressed with the efforts Azteca makes towards being environmentally friendly and have noticed these efforts from recycling all recyclable products, to installing showers for staff’s use to support alternative commuting, to changing lights to CFC bulbs.”

“We’re fortunate to live in a place like Utah where the environment is something to behold and protect,” said Brian Haslam, President of Azteca Systems. “We understand the importance of maintaining and bettering the world around us and realize the steps we continue to make is our responsible way of promoting eco-awareness in combination with a healthy organization. The certificate we received from Rocky Mountain Power on renewable energy is a nice token of our efforts and we our proud to be part of the program. It is these small things that, if we take part, contribute to the betterment of the environment.”
