JSC NPO Saturn Extends Its Usage of ANSYS Software

Russian Aerospace Company Relies on Leading Simulation Technology

SOUTHPOINTE, Pa., July 10 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- ANSYS, Inc. (NASDAQ: ANSS), a global innovator of simulation software and technologies designed to optimize product development processes, today announced that leading aircraft engine manufacturer JSC NPO Saturn has selected the comprehensive suite of multiphysics products from ANSYS to accelerate its product innovation initiatives. The Russian-based company plans to use simulation software from ANSYS mainly in the area of aircraft engine design. It also expects to tackle applications such as gas turbine engines for power generation, which engineers can optimize by developing innovative technologies for low-emission combustion of gaseous and liquid fuels and the use of modern ceramic materials. The ceramic high-temperature components can considerably reduce cooling air requirements and correspondingly increase engine efficiency.

JSC NPO Saturn's decision to select simulation software from ANSYS was based mainly on the capabilities available in the ANSYS(R) Workbench(TM) environment, the outstanding parallel computing performance, and the clear ANSYS strategy regarding future technological development. The aircraft engine manufacturer also cited the successful application of ANSYS products by other leading international and domestic manufacturers in the industry.

Saturn relies on technology from ANSYS in producing aircraft engines due to the technical performance of the software, but also because ANSYS has proven to be a company with a solid foundation and a clear strategy. NPO Saturn uses simulation technology from ANSYS in the area of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and structural mechanics when performing stress-strain analysis of critical engine components, thermal stress analysis of hot engine parts in turbine and compressor aerodynamic design, combustion simulation, and new-generation low NOx combustion chamber simulation. The company applies multiphysics technologies from ANSYS in designing high-pressure turbine blades, for blade flutter analysis, and for engine noise performance simulation. "Because of this advanced simulation technology from ANSYS, NPO Saturn is able to create more competitive products and strengthen its position in the industry," said Alexander Piontkovsky, chief information officer at JSC NPO Saturn.

"Using comprehensive multiphysics technologies from ANSYS, development engineers at Saturn can arrive at real-world solutions that have built-in product innovation," said Joe Fairbanks, vice president for global sales and support at ANSYS, Inc. "For example, our software can help reduce engine noise generation and lower exhaust emissions, both important environmental and regulatory considerations. Because it is such a forward-thinking company, our products will enable Saturn to create even more effective, highly reliable products."

ANSYS channel partner ZAO EMT R was instrumental in the sale and software implementation at JSC NPO Saturn. It will provide high-level technical support and maintenance to Saturn.
