Remote maintenance for the Mac - TeamViewer presents for the first time a version for Apple OS X

Uhingen, 04/03/2008 – The TeamViewer remote maintenance software, which until now has only been available for Windows PCs, will also be available for the first time for Apple Mac in future. A corresponding Beta version is available now for download from the supplier’s website ( www.teamviewer.com, free of charge for private users). TeamViewer is hence now making it also possible for Apple users to remotely access other computers via the Internet, even through firewalls. The new version runs from Mac OS X 10.4 and offers cross-platform support. This means that not only other Macs, but also Windows systems can be remotely controlled.

The Beta version is fully executable and completely usable. Following the establishment of a connection to the remote computer by means of a Partner ID, changes and maintenance work can be carried out or programs can be installed and executed. Unlike the final version, TeamViewer for Mac is not yet equipped with the function for transferring files between computers. The so-called customer module from the Windows version, which allows spontaneous support without installation on the remote controlled computer, has also not yet been implemented. Both features will, however, be available in the final version, which will most probably appear at the end of April. Commercial customers who decide to use the Mac version now can then upgrade free of charge.

A practical special feature of the licence model is that customers do not need to decide on one system, but can use the software within the context of their licence on both Windows and Mac systems.

“Unlike in the Windows sector, there have been very few remote support solutions for the Mac up to now that can establish a connection even through firewalls,” explains Dr. Tilo Rossmanith, Executive Manager of TeamViewer GmbH. “As a rule, these were then also fundamentally chargeable. In TeamViewer, we would like to present an interesting alternative here, which in addition is completely free of charge for private users.”
