SEGGER announces that Renesas has extended its emWin license to include all RA microcontrollers

Monheim Rhein, Germany – 27th September 2021

SEGGER today announced that Renesas Electronics has extended its license of emWin, SEGGER's embedded graphic library, to their latest RA series microcontrollers. The license covers the use of the industry-leading embedded graphics library by all developers using any Renesas RA microcontroller powered by Arm Cortex CPUs.

With more devices using bitmap displays as standard, emWin is an obvious choice as it offers everything required to construct a modern graphical user interface, including multitouch capability. For rapid application development, AppWizard can prototype a user interface on a PC and deploy it to an embedded device with only a few keystrokes. Because the GUI can be prototyped on the PC with pixel-perfect rendering, development can be started even before target hardware is available: what you see on the PC is what you get on the device.

“emWin is used by developers worldwide to deliver state-of-the-art GUIs for consumer devices and industrial equipment,” said Roger Wendelken, Senior Vice President in the IoT and Infrastructure Business Unit at Renesas. “With the award-winning AppWizard, we firmly believe emWin provides an outstanding package for easily developed, high-quality graphical user interfaces.”

“We are maintaining a successful business relationship with Renesas for many years now,” said SEGGER's CEO Ivo Geilenbruegge. “emWin and Renesas RA microcontrollers are a powerful combination to meet all requirements of interactive user interfaces in embedded systems.”

Existing Renesas customers can easily transition designs to any product of the RA devices. New customers can use emWin to start development of highly sophisticated, interactive user interfaces on any Renesas RA microcontroller.

About Renesas RA
The Renesas Advanced (RA) Family now boasts over 150 devices ranging from 48MHz to 200MHz. The RA Family MCUs offer industry-leading power consumption specifications, a very wide range of communications options, and best-in-class security options, including Arm TrustZone technology. All RA devices are supported by the Renesas Flexible Software Program (FSP) that includes highly efficient drivers and middleware to ease the implementation of communications and security.

About emWin
emWin is a high-performance graphics library that has been optimized for minimum memory consumption in both RAM and ROM, as well as for high speed and versatility. It supports both superloop-style and multi-threaded applications and can be used on any RTOS. emWin can support one or more displays, each with differing geometries and color depths, can support physical or virtual displays, and is easily retargeted for different display controllers and microcontroller architectures.

emWin can be used in any application from battery-powered single-chip products with basic graphic needs, to high-end embedded systems demanding ultra-high performance and sophisticated animations.
