Winchester Mystery House 3D Mapping by PaintScaping Culminates on Halloween

3D Projection Powerhouse Will Perform Through November 2 at Mansion's Unhinged immersive experience.

SAN JOSE, Calif., Oct. 29, 2019 — (PRNewswire) —

SAN JOSE, Calif., Oct. 29, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- The 3D mapping at the world-famous Winchester Mystery House, part of their Unhinged tour, will close this week, the day after Halloween, following a very successful run that started on September 6. It marks the first joint venture between PaintScaping, a world leader in 3D projection mapping and the famous estate.

In 1884, Sarah Winchester, widow of the Winchester Arms Co. founder, began adding to her 8-room mansion -- non-stop, 24/7. Sarah believed she needed to shelter the spirits killed by Winchester rifles. When she died, the house had expanded to an astonishing 160 rooms. Yet, there was no plan – no official blueprints were ever drawn up.

"It is definitely one of the most complex mappings we've ever done," says Philippe Bergeron, co-founder of LA-based PaintScaping. "Just to create the 3D model was an incredible task." The lack of symmetry in the architecture made for an unusual challenge. "Good thing we love challenges," adds Bergeron with a smile.

PaintScaping is no stranger to high-profile mappings. It has created the largest 3D mapping ever in the USA, on Park MGM, in Las Vegas (550ft x 26 stories). They've also worked on the most viewed mapping ever on YouTube, for Rihanna and Calvin Harris, at over 2 billion views. Their mapping for the bicentennial of University of Virginia, founded by Thomas Jefferson, was one of the most elaborate in the history of universities. Other projects include Rodeo Drive, Playboy Mansion, New York Public Library, Travelers Championship, and Sony Pictures.

On a personal level, Bergeron feels very connected to Halloween. He owns the house of silent actor Buster Keaton, the godson of Harry Houdini, who died on Halloween night. "It was meant to be," concludes Bergeron, about their involvement with Winchester.
