Mentor Graphics Expands Mentor Embedded Linux Support for the latest AMD Embedded G-series Family of Processors

WILSONVILLE, Ore., Nov. 2, 2016 — (PRNewswire) — Mentor Graphics Corporation (NASDAQ: MENT) today announced the availability of expanded processor support from the Mentor® Embedded Linux® development platform for the third generation of AMD's Embedded G-Series system-on-chip (SoC) portfolio. The AMD Embedded G-Series Family of devices (formerly codenamed: "Prairie Falcon") supports high-speed graphics and computing performance without compromising energy efficiency. TheMentor Embedded Linux (MEL) platform is based on the open source Yocto™ Project-based Linux distribution which Mentor then complements with commercial testing, value-added capabilities, security vulnerability patches, development tools, and world-class support. This solution is ideal for feature-rich applications targeting markets such as digital gaming, point-of-sale (POS), and 4K digital signage and displays, and industrial controls.

"AMD Embedded G-Series customers will realize the benefits of using the Mentor Embedded Linux tool for their graphically-rich, low-power applications," stated Scott Aylor, corporate vice president and general manager, AMD Enterprise Solutions. "Mentor is our embedded Linux development solution of choice, providing a robust and scalable platform with global support, helping to serve the needs of our customers."

AMD embedded customers can download the updated Mentor Embedded Linux Lite and Sourcery™ CodeBench Lite tools to quickly build, from source, a customized Linux-based platform based on technology from the Yocto Project. Using the commercial Mentor Embedded Linux solution and award-winning Sourcery Analyzer technologies, embedded C/C+ developers can gain valuable insights into system behavior and timing.  This technology allows users to perform evaluation and prototyping, and provides a visual debugging framework that identifies functional, timing, and performance bottlenecks.

Additionally, developers can continue to seamlessly migrate to these new commercial versions of Mentor Embedded Linux with the Sourcery CodeBench tool. The Mentor Embedded Linux runtime and development tools also support the AMD Embedded R-Series SoC (previously codenamed "Merlin Falcon"), and previous generation AMD Embedded G-Series processors (previously codenamed: "Steppe Eagle" and "Crowned Eagle"), including the AMD Embedded R-Series APU (previously codenamed: "Bald Eagle").

Support for developing and debugging Qt® -based user interfaces (UI) using Qt Creator has been added to the latest commercial Mentor Embedded Linux platform, including an upgrade to the integrated, accelerated Qt graphics framework. In addition to the Qt library modules, developers can make use of unique system-level trace and analysis visualization to easily optimize UI performance metrics, such as frame rate, to deliver highly responsive graphics-intensive applications.

Additional features and capabilities in the Mentor Embedded Linux Commercial Platform for AMD Embedded G-Series and R-Series processors include:

"Customers value our Mentor Embedded Linux solution because of our deep expertise in open source," stated Scot Morrison, general manager, platform business unit, Mentor Graphics Embedded Systems Division. "This expertise, combined with our responsiveness to their unique needs, our ability address critical security vulnerabilities within the runtime and the tools, and the flexibility in the solution that we deliver, provide unsurpassed value to our global customers."
