The InLocation Alliance Partners With the Open Geospatial Consortium and i-Locate to Deliver a Comprehensive Use Case White Paper for Indoor Positioning

PISCATAWAY, NJ -- (Marketwired) -- May 25, 2016 -- While exhibiting at the Geo-IoT World Conference in Brussels, Belgium, the InLocation Alliance (ILA) today announced the publication of a comprehensive Use Case White Paper written with the Open Geospatial Consortium and the European Union's i-Locate Project. The white paper is based on the 2016 InLocation Alliance Use Case Survey promoted by ILA, OGC, i-Locate and the Location Based Marketing Association to members, participants and the general public that resulted in over 150 results. The white paper provides insight to thought leaders of the opportunities afforded by indoor location based services and technical solutions being developed in the ecosystem.

InLocation Alliance will also be presenting the Use Case Survey results at an Indoor Positioning Summit and the European Navigation Conference the week of 30 May 2016 in Helsinki, Finland.

The survey results provide a snapshot of the requirements submitted by different stakeholders (within and beyond the members and participants in ILA, OGC and i-Locate) and an up-to-date overview of the market for indoor positioning.

"This white paper illustrates the opportunities to stakeholders by describing some exemplary developments and highlights the importance of the ILA. Enterprise, Venue Owners, Installation and Integrators are welcome to join and help open up new opportunities for all" stated Kirk Burroughs, Board Chair of InLocation Alliance.

"Although many notable examples of deployments are available, with many examples reported in this white paper, ILA believes the time has come for a deeper integration of the indoor positioning technologies in the business processes across industries, to the benefit of all involved stakeholders" said Fabio Malabocchia, Use Case Working Group Chair for ILA.

Giuseppe Conti, Director of the i-Locate Project and the OGC Mobile Location Services - Discussion Working Group Co-Chair, stated that the survey results show the need for sharable maps and that standards for indoor location information are needed for wide interoperability. In this new frontier of geospatial information there is ever increasing reliability of determining indoor positions and OGC standards are providing standards for indoor positioning coordinates, identifiers and building and urban models (CityGML and IndoorGML). OGC standards in this technology space will advance the state of the industry to the benefit of many domains.

This white paper can be downloaded from the InLocation Alliance Website where previous white papers are also available including the ILA White Paper on Use Cases in Retail and Transportation Hubs and the ILA System Architecture White Paper which provides a technology agnostic architecture which provides interoperability for ILA member developed use cases.

About the InLocation Alliance - Formally established August 2012, the InLocation Alliance is an industry collaboration dedicated to promoting indoor positioning solutions that directly benefit the industry and users of indoor location services and solutions on mobile devices. ILA connects the entire indoor positioning ecosystem in one place.

The OGC® is an international geospatial standards consortium of more than 515 companies, government agencies, research organizations, and universities participating in a consensus process to develop publicly available standards. OGC standards support interoperable solutions that "geo-enable" the Web, wireless and location-based services and mainstream IT. Visit the OGC website at http://www.opengeospatial.org/.

Coordinated by Trilogis Srl based in Rovereto, Italy, the i-locate Project helps extend current open standards to support indoor/outdoor Location Based Services based on sound privacy and security policies. The i-locate public geoportal collects, makes discoverable and makes accessible as Open Data indoor spatial information about publicly accessible buildings. i-locate provides the first reference implementation of the OGC IndoorGML Encoding Standard. The i-locate project is co-funded by the European Commission in the framework of the ICT-PSP (Information and Communication Technology Program). http://www.i-locate.eu/
