PTC Introduces PTC Mathcad Prime 3.1

Latest version includes new, enhanced integration with PTC Creo 3.0

NEEDHAM, Mass. — (BUSINESS WIRE) — March 2, 2015PTC (Nasdaq: PTC) today announced the availability of PTC Mathcad Prime® 3.1 engineering calculation software, designed for engineers who want to analyze, solve, document and share vital calculations and design intent. This new version allows users to better connect engineering calculations to other applications and processes including PTC Creo® 3.0 and other third-party tools.

This enhanced integration with PTC Creo allows users to embed a PTC Mathcad Prime 3.1 worksheet directly in their CAD model, at the part or assembly level. Embedding a worksheet allows better capture of design intent that stays with the model automatically. Calculation results can be used to drive the geometric model in PTC Creo, and parameters from PTC Creo can be used as inputs to engineering calculations in PTC Mathcad®. This new ability to quickly and easily document engineering knowledge and design intent within the PTC Creo 3.0 model provides engineers with a powerful digital engineering notebook.

Boston Engineering, a product design and engineering services firm (and PTC reseller), has been a long-time PTC Mathcad user. The firm leverages the software throughout the product development lifecycle - from design specifications through the engineering calculations. Historically, if a CAD model was “spun off” to create a new revision or model, the team needed to update and map the calculation file to the new product. But with PTC Mathcad Prime 3.1, users can embed the worksheet directly within the PTC Creo model at the part or assembly level. It then becomes part of the model and part of any iteration that’s leveraged from the part or file.

“Being able to link these calculations with the part or assembly that we are developing is incredibly beneficial because that saves time managing two completely different files,” said Mike Conry, Boston Engineering’s Advanced Systems Group (ASG).

Additionally, PTC Mathcad Prime 3.1 features several new enhancements designed to make the product a single solution for engineers and design teams to capture and communicate their critical design and engineering knowledge.

“We are very pleased to share PTC Mathcad Prime 3.1” said Brent Edmonds, Senior Director of PTC Mathcad. “In this release we worked very hard to provide a solution that makes sharing vital engineering calculations and design intent a simple, cost-effective process. Gone are the days of having to waste time going back and updating and mapping the calculation files to a new product each time a design is modified. With PTC Mathcad Prime 3.1 we are essentially giving our users back the time – and cost – of setting up new projects.”

Availability
PTC Mathcad 3.1 is now available for download here. Full integration with PTC Creo requires user implementation of PTC Creo 3.0 M030 or higher.
