InvenSense Introduces the World’s First Motion SoC Optimized for Google’s Android Lollipop 5.0

ICM-20645 SoC Features Ultra-Low Power, AlwaysOn Context-Aware Motion Hub

SAN JOSE, Calif. — (BUSINESS WIRE) — October 28, 2014InvenSense, Inc. (NYSE: INVN), the leading provider of intelligent sensor solutions, announced the 6-axis ICM-20645 MEMS SoC, optimized to support on-chip new functions introduced in Android Lollipop. The ICM-20645 incorporates the newest version of InvenSense’s patented Digital Motion Processor (DMP) to off-load new Android 5.0 AlwaysOn features such as on-chip activity classifier, tilt sensor, device context gestures, and wake-up sensors. The integrated hardware and software solution includes a gyroscope, accelerometer and DMP, targeting next-generation smartphones, tablets, fitness devices, watches, and wearables that run Android 5.0 and Android Wear.

The InvenSense ICM-20645 complete embedded motion hub solution is designed to offload the complex protocol processing and event filtering necessary for the new sensor functions in Android Lollipop, enabling:

The ICM-20645 SoC performs these functions on-chip, significantly lowering system power consumption for AlwaysOn contextual awareness, reducing system cost and complexity, and eliminating the need for additional sensor hub processing ICs. Further, the ICM-20645 SoC has been designed to meet or exceed all new Android Compatibility Test Suite (CTS) sensor requirements for power, performance, and timing accuracy in Android 5.0.

“The newest member of our M-2 series product line, the InvenSense ICM-20645 MEMS SoC enables the next generation of activity, location and context aware applications,” said Ali Foughi, Vice President of Marketing and Business Development at InvenSense. “Incorporating an embedded motion hub for all motion processing, including fusion with complementary sensor data, the ICM-20645 is easily upgradeable for existing smartphone, tablet and wearables designs running Android Jelly Bean or KitKat; and benefits from InvenSense’s MotionApps software consisting of open source drivers and software libraries, thus providing a complete sensor system on chip (SoC) solution.”

As the market transitions to Android Lollipop, the ICM-20645 - currently in production - can be found in smartphone devices later this year. For additional information and data sheets, please visit www.invensense.com or contact InvenSense Sales at sales@invensense.com.
