F5 Enhances Application Availability with VMware vCloud Hybrid Service

Interoperability improves disaster recovery/business continuity across data center and VMware cloud environments

July 24, 2014, SEATTLE F5 Networks (NASDAQ: FFIV) announced today that BIG-IP® application services are now available for VMware vCloud® Hybrid Service, a secure, hybrid cloud service based on VMware vSphere®. Enterprise customers can now easily extend the same impactful application delivery services they enjoy in the data center into the cloud. Specifically, global application availability, automation, and cloud bursting are enhanced with F5 and VMware, bolstering disaster recovery and business continuity efforts. Moreover, with today’s announcement, F5 offers certified capabilities within vCloud Hybrid Service environments that few other Application Delivery Controller (ADC) vendors can match.

“Maintaining application availability and performance while moving workloads to the cloud is key for a seamless user experience across a hybrid environment,” said Ajay Patel, Vice President of Application Services, vCloud Hybrid Service, VMware. “With F5’s BIG-IP Global Traffic Manager validated in vCloud Hybrid Service, our customers can seamlessly manage application availability, performance and failover.”

Historically, IT organizations have faced challenges around scaling applications and associated performance to the cloud without sacrificing availability or user experience. These factors can discourage companies from embracing cloud solutions as a viable way to support their production workloads. Using F5 BIG-IP Global Traffic Manager (GTM), customers can route traffic across hybrid, on-premises, and cloud environments around the globe to keep pace with changing network conditions and user volumes for business needs.

“By making our solutions available for the VMware vCloud Hybrid Service, we’re offering customers a way to elegantly combine a comprehensive set of Software Defined Application Services that go far beyond just basic load balancing,” said Calvin Rowland, Vice President of Business Development, F5. “VMware is a significant technology partner for F5, as they provide a number of compelling ways for customers to increase the reach of the F5 Synthesis architecture model, and enable efficient automation and programmability throughout evolving IT environments.”
