PacketVideo's Twonky Extends the Capabilities of NOTTV in TV BOX

SAN DIEGO, CA -- (Marketwired) -- May 21, 2014 -- PacketVideo (PV), the global leader in providing rich media experiences via the products and services offered by many of the world's leading Communications Service Providers (CSP) and Consumer Electronics (CE) companies, today announced that its Twonky SDK technology will extend NOTTV capabilities through several new devices and apps being released by NTT DOCOMO, INC., including TV BOX.

NOTTV is a mobile multimedia broadcasting service for smartphones managed by NTT DOCOMO subsidiary mmbi, Inc. The new TV BOX, which supports all three terrestrial DTV standards in Japan (ISDB-T full seg, ISDB-T one seg, ISDB-Tm), and related devices, improves on traditional one-way content delivery with innovative features that foster next-generation user engagement. By creating a two-way communication channel between the end user and the service back-end, NOTTV can now deliver end user engagement with video content to a level not seen outside of the web. With help from PV's Twonky SDK, TV BOX now offers new ways for NOTTV subscribers in Japan to enjoy their favorite premium multimedia content.

Through capabilities provided by the Twonky SDK, NOTTV subscribers will now be able to download iOS and Android apps to enjoy NOTTV premium content stored on TV BOX, through a secure DTCP-IP connection, directly on their smartphones and tablets. Additionally, through the Twonky Server, subscribers will be able to stream NOTTV, d video and d anime store premium content through a secure DTCP-IP connection to their smartphones and tablets. The Twonky SDK also supports Microsoft's PlayReady content protection technology for TV BOX. These new capabilities give consumers increased choice and control over their rich media experiences.

"NTT DOCOMO is proud to enable this important use case for NOTTV and our mobile subscribers with TV BOX," said Seiji Maruyama, product team at NTT DOCOMO. "We are pleased that Twonky technology supports a reliable solution that our consumers truly need and enjoy using."

By enabling communication service providers like NTT DOCOMO to move premium content securely between devices, PacketVideo helps create better media experiences for consumers to ultimately increase media and data consumption, and therefore ARPU.

"Choice and flexibility are important to the Japanese consumer of premium media content," said Mark Tapling, CEO of PacketVideo. "NTT DOCOMO continues to lead the market in this type of innovative offering, and we are proud to play a part in their continued success."
