Continental Mapping continues to support the Wisconsin Department of Transportation

(Sun Prairie, WI)—April 10th, 2012—Continental Mapping Consultants has been supporting the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) in their statewide photogrammetric mapping needs for over 12 years, completing numerous task orders through their master contract each year for this local client. Continental Mapping provides full-service photogrammetric mapping services for both urban and rural transportation design. Recently, Continental Mapping successfully completed a transportation mapping project on a segment of US-51 in Dane County, Wisconsin.

After completing a study on this high-volume corridor from McFarland to Stoughton, Dane County discovered sufficient need for improvements along this highway and approached Continental Mapping to provide high accuracy mapping to support multiple long and short term design improvements. Continental Mapping performed flight planning and management, ground control surveys, aerial triangulation, digital mapping, and QA/QC to WisDOT’s stringent specifications along this 10 mile stretch. Planimetric mapping was produced at 1”=50’ scale and collected features included roads, signs, and buildings. Continental Mapping delivered planimetric data and created a Digital Terrain Model (DTM) suitable for 1’ contours, meeting DOT design engineering requirements.  Continental Mapping understands the strict specifications and requirements for transportation mapping and they continue to meet and deliver high quality mapping products within delivery schedules.

“Our quality deliverables and past project experience with WisDOT over the last 12 years gives them the confidence to continue utilizing Continental Mapping in their photogrammetric mapping needs,” said Project Manager Jason Vande Hey.

Continental Mapping President Dave Hart said, “High accuracy mapping for Departments of Transportation has always been a foundation of our company. We look forward to providing these services, as well as additional services such as land surveying and mobile lidar, to the WisDOT and other transportation clients in the future.”
