Esri Canada Customers Win GeoWorld's 2011 Geospatial Leadership Awards

St-Hubert Bar-B-Q and ICIS Win the Public's Vote for Successfully Adopting Enterprise Geographic Technology to Increase Efficiencies

TORONTO – December 7, 2011 – Esri Canada congratulates St-Hubert Bar-B-Q and the Integrated Cadastral Information Society (ICIS) on receiving the most public votes to win the Private Enterprise Award and Public Enterprise Award respectively at the 2011 Geospatial Leadership Awards. Both organizations leverage Esri's geographic information system (GIS) technology to increase efficiencies across their enterprise. Sponsored by GeoWorld Magazine, the awards recognize leadership and innovation in the geospatial technology industry.

“It's a privilege to work with Canada's leading organizations to help enable their vision,” remarks Alex Miller, president, Esri Canada. “Through our GIS solution, St-Hubert supports their focus on customer satisfaction by ensuring fresh meals are delivered quickly. ICIS uses GIS to foster collaboration and create a unified addressing system that will improve the delivery of citizen services across the province. Their applications underscore the immense value GIS brings to society and we'd like to congratulate them on their success.”

St-Hubert received the Private Enterprise Award for their order management system. The company serves barbecue chicken meals in more than 100 restaurants in Canada. To better manage home deliveries, they developed a Web application that uses Esri's ArcGIS Server solution integrated with their order-taking system. It automatically geocodes customer information and routes the order to the appropriate restaurant, ensuring fast and efficient meal delivery.

“We're honoured to be recognized for our GIS implementation,” says Nathalie Ouellette, project manager, St-Hubert Bar-B-Q. “The technology has helped us to streamline our order management process and significantly reduce the time between order taking and delivery. GIS allows us to optimize the productivity of our restaurants to deliver faster and more efficient service. It has become a critical system supporting our daily operations.”

ICIS received the Public Enterprise Award for AddressBC, a central civic address registry for British Columbia. The nonprofit organization works with governments and utility companies in the province to share and combine spatial data into an integrated system that can be accessed by all members. AddressBC enables members, through a secure Web application built on ArcGIS technology, to maintain address data in a standardized format and easily share it with other agencies to improve decision-making and support various applications including emergency planning, public safety, customer service and economic development.

AddressBC marks the first time that ICIS is able to offer its members a robust tool for address custodians to create, manage and maintain address data online in the absence of their own application. This feature is in addition to the expected capability of receiving contributed address data from member jurisdictions with addressing capability in place. As a result, AddressBC can support and accommodate every level of address management from the source.

“The ultimate adoption of AddressBC throughout British Columbia will yield a high value, single source, standardized and geospatially accurate point based addressing system,” states Barry Logan, ICIS Executive Director. “The economies of scale that can be realized for managers and consumers of this data are immense. We're pleased to be able to offer this solution today.”
