SAN FRANCISCO — (BUSINESS WIRE) — October 11, 2011 — Havok™, a premier provider of interactive software solutions for the games and entertainment industry, today announced the release of Havok Vision Engine 8.2, the latest version of one of the industry’s top cross-platform 3D game engines, now incorporating added features relevant to developers of massively multiplayer online games and games on mobile platforms. The Havok Vision Engine was acquired as part of Havok’s recent acquisition of Trinigy GmbH. The new release of the engine is fully integrated with RakNet networking engine and Havok Physics, the leading real-time collision detection and most robust simulation technology available.

Integration with RakNet’s network engine offers full network support out-of-the-box, and includes built-in and custom game object properties that can be easily synchronized. The Vision Engine's comprehensive features equip MMO developers with powerful tools to prototype and develop projects quickly. Features like dynamic time of day, lights and shadows, forward and deferred rendering, a powerful animation system, as well as samples for character customization and other features commonly used in MMO games make the new Havok Vision Engine the ideal foundation for MMO developers. Additionally, for large MMO teams, Vision Engine offers a proven and mature workflow including, for example, a seamless integration with Perforce and flexible hooks into other leading version control systems.

With full support of PS Vita® and the latest iOS platforms including iPad 2, Havok Vision Engine 8.2 includes many standout 3D graphics features including Bump mapping, Dot3 light maps, and a Light Grid system specifically designed for mobile platforms allowing for realistic static and dynamic illumination. The Vision Engine can be programmed through LUA scripting and has an extensive, unparalleled C++ API which is available on leading platforms.

“Vision Engine is designed to offer developer teams of browser-based, mobile, and handheld games the same 3D immersive technology, flexibility and creative freedom as console game developers,” says Brian Waddle, Havok’s VP of Sales and Marketing. “We are excited to offer these latest enhancements and look forward to working with developers to build innovative games for online and mobile platforms.”
