The award acknowledges outstanding contributions to technological progress through engineering management. During the award presentation, Philadelphia Mayor Michael A. Nutter was on hand to congratulate the four brothers for their contributions to engineering innovation, as well as to the economic growth of the Greater Philadelphia area through job creation. Incubated in Philadelphia, Bentley Systems’ international headquarters is in Exton, Chester County, Pa., where 500 of its nearly 3000 colleagues are based.

In his remarks to those gathered at the award luncheon, held yesterday at the Pennsylvania Convention Center in Philadelphia, Mayor Nutter said, “Philadelphia is a city with a long history of invention and innovation. Today, Bentley Systems continues those historic achievements, and I would like to congratulate the Bentley brothers for the tremendous work they do in our city.”

Chuck Pennoni, chairman, Pennoni Associates, and a past recipient of the medal, said in presenting the award, “The Bentley brothers have demonstrated that the core values of honesty, integrity, and service are compatible with successful entrepreneurship.”

Among the Bentley brothers’ many contributions to engineering recognized were Bentley Systems’ comprehensive software solutions for the design, construction, and operations of infrastructure. These solutions are used by architects, engineers, constructors, geospatial professionals, and owner-operators to sustain infrastructure around the world. The brothers were also commended for their ongoing support of educational outreach to students and encouragement of science, technology, education, and math (STEM) programs, most notably through the company’s long-standing sponsorship of the National Engineers Week Future City Competition, including hosting the National Finals.

Commenting on receiving the award, Greg Bentley said, “My brothers and I are honored to accept this prestigious award. The Engineers’ Club of Philadelphia does outstanding work promoting and supporting the endeavors of the region’s engineers, and we congratulate its leaders for the valuable work they do. The George Washington Medal is not only bestowed upon my brothers and me, but also on all our colleagues at Bentley Systems who, through their hard work and dedication, enable us to meet our company’s goal of supporting the enterprises and professionals who design, build, and operate the world’s infrastructure.”

Founded in 1877, the Engineers’ Club of Philadelphia is dedicated to the advancement of the engineering field including its various disciplines, the professional development of its members, and networking among technical professionals.
