Redlands, California — April 19, 2011 - The State of Louisiana Board of Regents recently selected geographic information system (GIS) technology from Esri and Esri partner 3-GIS to manage its fiber network and oversee construction of new infrastructure. The Louisiana Board of Regents plans, coordinates, and maintains budgetary responsibility for the state's public higher education community, including 19 public colleges, universities, and professional schools.
"To make this project move forward affordably, our stakeholders will need information in the least amount of time," said Lonnie Leger, director of networking for the Louisiana Board of Regents. "GIS technology from Esri and 3-GIS provides the flexibility we needed to achieve our goals."
The organization will use GIS to manage the routes, fibers, and manholes of 12,000 existing miles of network. GIS will also play a key role as the board begins construction of 900 miles of new infrastructure funded by the Broadband Technology Opportunities Program (BTOP).
For telecommunications companies, Esri technology gives employees an accurate view of the system and a database that can be accessed from the office and the field. Esri also helps with the management of existing corporate assets and the capture of data in real time.
