Timmons Group Presenting “Focus on Your Business Requirements with Generic Server Object Extension (SOE) Development” at 2011 Esri Developer Summit

Richmond, VA – March 8th, 2011 – Timmons Group, a leader in geospatial consulting and applications development, announced today that Sekhar Kafle, a Senior Software Engineer in the Company’s Applications Development Practice, will be making a user presentation titled “Rapid Development of GIS Services” on March 10 at the 2011 Esri Developer Summit in Palm Springs, California.

Kafle’s presentation will focus on how Timmons Group leverages generic SOE creation and dynamic injection of business logic and functionality at runtime. Geospatial developers understand that GIS service development with a server object extension (SOE) can be challenging. First, it is hard to test SOE code since it runs in the process managed by a Windows service. Kafle’s session will cover a technique to simplify unit testing and debugging of SOE code by running a mock server object in a local process. A second issue with a typical SOE is the tight coupling of ArcGIS Server implementation code with the business code. This not only adds code redundancy and maintenance (install, upgrade, etc.) overhead but also makes it less adaptive to future changes. Kafle’s session will cover the design of a generic SOE that implements necessary ArcGIS Server interfaces but contains no specific functionalities. Instead, the functionalities are dynamically injected into the SOE at run time. Developers will learn techniques to rapidly develop custom GIS services by simply reusing the generic SOE and focusing instead on their business requirements.

Timmons Group is a recognized leader in developing highly intuitive enterprise solutions that integrate complex business requirements with geospatial functionality. The application development team at Timmons Group has a long resume of solving business challenges and simplifying workflows resulting in geospatially-enabled web, mobile, and desktop solutions for our clients.
