CDV Presents BIM Lifecycle Management Workflow to the Healthcare BIM Consortium
February 1, 2011, Kaiser Permanente Regional Offices, Oakland, CA - CDV Systems, providers of full BIM Lifecycle Management and specialists in BIM/CAFM/GIS/FM, released elements of its proprietary BIM/CAD to GIS and FM workflow process for "Meeting #2: Interoperability" to the Healthcare BIM Consortium. This group includes BIM leaders from Kaiser Permanente, the Department of Veterans Affairs, the U.S. Army Health Facility Planning Agency, Sutter Health and the Department of Defense -MHS.
The presentation focused on addressing 4 major areas of specific concern for the HBC:
- Automate Space Program for Design Validation: by Project / by Room/Space
- Automate Equipment Validation: by Project / by Room/Space
- Automate Space Data Population of CMMS to: GIS / CAFM
- Automate Medical FF+E Asset Inventory & Maintenance to: GIS / CAFM
The presentation highlighted CDV’s ability to bidirectionally pass BIM and CAD data to IBM’s Maximo CAFM software as well as providing direct export of Room, Space and Asset data from BIM and CAD files for import, consumption and creation of an ESRI geodatabase. The gap from BIM/CAD to GIS and FM has finally been bridged, bringing with it opportunities for data integration across the entire project lifecycle.
Tremendous investments in BIM within the AEC arena have given rise to a substantial amount of valuable, but often underused data. The CDV workflow process, coupled with the CodeBook International software package, overcomes the barriers of data interoperability issues that were formally associated with transitioning data through the BIM/CAD/GIS/FM lifecycle.
This technology creates new opportunities for Owners to better manage their products and assets as homogenous full lifecycle data models. AEC, GIS & FM professionals can realize increased efficiencies in design and data/asset analysis and collaboration that is currently difficult or altogether impossible with BIM/CAD applications today. Bringing this BIM/CAD/GIS/FM technology to market will fundamentally impact more complicated project types such as healthcare, transportation, defense and educational facilities.
This first of its kind methodology is designed to allow users, at any skill level, to transfer, edit and analyze their data by removing the boundaries between CAD, BIM, GIS and FM environments. It offers the transfer of 3D spatial and attribute data from BIM/CAD into GIS, likewise, a bidirectional passage of facility management information to FM and back again into CAD/BIM. This new approach to the CAD/BIM/GIS/FM workflow fully satisfies all phases of CAD/BIM/GIS/FM system implementation and maintenance.
"We were honored for the invitation to present our workflow to this organization" writes Cyril Verley, architect and founder of CDV Systems. "Client success with BIM has always been the focus of our company and the workflow we have developed integrated with CodeBook International truly allows BIM data to be used for the full lifecycle of buildings and campuses. When owners request BIM as a deliverable, this workflow provides the justification of that request."
Additional benefits realized by the use of CodeBook software is a dramatic reduction of BIM/CAD file sizes by providing a relational database that stores and exports data that is better managed and utilized outside of the BIM/CAD files; all leading BIM/CAD applications are supported.
“We are very excited to present our unique lifecycle solution of mature products and workflows to our clients” writes Daniel Stonecipher, VP of CDV Systems. “Our system provides a comprehensive solution answering the AEC industries ‘perfect storm’ needs of data interoperability between BIM/CAD/FM/GIS. The fact that our solution is platform neutral among the major BIM/CAD software providers, and is dynamically capable of plugging into our customers existing software, data and workflows, without having to re-invent their existing operations, is a great offering we are proud to offer our clients.”
CDV offers full integration services that examine a clients existing workflows and data structures to best integrate CDV’s full lifecycle BIM/CAD/FM/GIS solutions that also include “whole building” commissioning services as well.
While the transitioning and implementation of CDV’s full lifecycle solutions is a key ingredient of their consulting and professional services, additional offerings such as project review, project auditing, solution systems maintenance and training are critical and necessary activities. CDV offers, as it has for the past 10 years, a unique "Train the Project" approach which addresses all aspects of CAD/BIM/GIS/FM education.
CDV's CAD/ BIM/GIS implementation team also includes PointLinePoly Inc. and InterPro Solutions, LLC. PointLinePoly are pioneers in the move to architectural GIS, who bring into play their powerful GIS Enterprise Asset Management solution. InterPro Solutions, experts in building excellence in CAD & BIM to Facilities Asset Management using IBM’s Maximo, provide strategic asset management (SAM) programs designed to reduce the overall costs of operating and maintaining large commercial, institutional and government facilities.
