Stevenage, 30th November 2010 – Cadcorp partner, Vicrea Solutions B.V., continues its success in local government with the decision by the municipality of Groningen to deploy Vicrea’s Neuron Property Registration System (BAG), based on Cadcorp web mapping and GIS technology. The solution will be used to comply with the ‘Nederlandse Overheid Referentie Architectuur’ (NORA) – the Dutch Government Reference Architecture. NORA is positioned as a first step in an eGovernment vision that will mean a more efficient, less bureaucratic administration capable of delivering high quality public services.
Mr Dirk Winkel of Vicrea explained the practical significance of the architecture. “Although NORA has no legal basis in law, it has been deemed the primary reference architecture for new ICT projects, either directly at the national level, or indirectly via derived reference architectures at the provincial and local levels. The proper management of spatial information is a crucial component in this model. We have found that Cadcorp’s strengths in open and standards-based technologies have been invaluable in allowing us to meet the architectural requirements of local government.”
Mr Peter Duijve of GVV (Vicrea Users Group) explained why so many Dutch municipalities have selected Neuron BAG. “We have seen in Neuron BAG a perfect solution for a user friendly and integrated solution for registering addresses and buildings. The software is based on the latest technology, and it fits seamlessly into the systems architecture specified by the Dutch government.”
The IT challenges faced by the Dutch government are not unique, as Mike O’Neil, the CEO of Cadcorp points out: “Governments throughout the world share a common ambition to improve service delivery by better use of information technology. It is encouraging to see a recognition of the importance of properly managing and sharing geographic information in order to realise that ambition. Cadcorp is very proud to be working with Vicrea to help deliver the citizen-centric future that the Dutch government envisages.“
