Mapbiquity Offers Online GIS Data Storage and Custom Web Maps

Mapbiquity.com Services Ease Adding Maps to Websites

Fort Collins, Colo. — November 15, 2010 — Small organizations such as those in local government, planning, environmental, and research often do not have the resources to put their GIS or map data on the Web. These organizations are likely to have one or more GIS analysts on staff whose expertise and time is allocated to data analysis. However, it is difficult and rare for them to also have web mapping experience. Mapbiquity ( www.mapbiquity.com) recently launched a new set of web mapping tools which simplify getting GIS data on the web. The online service addresses the two most challenging hurdles to publishing web maps, 1) how and where to store map data, and 2) how to write the code to put the map on the website. It allows users to upload and store map data, style the data for map display, and provide code templates for users to easily place onto their own websites.

“We’ve designed the service to help organizations who could really benefit from releasing their geographic data to the public but who may not have the staff or resources to do so”, says Kris Peterson, Founder and Owner of Mapbiquity, LLC. Peterson adds, “Without strong technical resources or money, it is difficult to put a map on a website. Our goal is to make storing geographic data and publishing it on the web as easy and painless as possible.” Mapbiquity allows a land trust, for example, to publish a map showing trust land locations with a Google Maps background.
