MISSOULA , Montana , 28 October 2010 -- TerraEchos Inc., a leading provider of covert intelligence and surveillance sensor systems, has won the ‘IBM CTO Innovation Award’ for its Adelos S4™ fiber-optic sensor solution. TerraEchos received the award this week at the 2010 IBM Information On Demand Conference in Las Vegas.
The Adelos S4 system integrates IBM InfoSphere Streams, advanced sensor fusion and geospatial situational awareness technologies to identify threats detected by buried or submerged fiber-optic sensor arrays. TerraEchos developed the system for use in border security and critical infrastructure protection.
“The IBM InfoSphere Streams technology is a significant market and capability differentiator for the Adelos S4 sensor system,” said Dr. Alex Philp, President and CEO of TerraEchos Inc. “TerraEchos is honored to be chosen from the many IBM business partners who were nominated for the prestigious CTO Award.”
As the first commercial licensee in the world of IBM’s Infosphere Streams, TerraEchos introduced Adelos S4 in early 2010 as the first fiber-optic product to embed the Streams technology as its core analytical engine. Adelos S4 is comprised of a fiber-optic sensor array buried in the ground or underwater to gather real-time acoustic information. These data are analyzed and the sound patterns are matched against complex algorithms to determine what made the noise. Incorporating InfoSphere Streams technology, Adelos can instantly identify, distinguish, and classify a variety of objects detected by the fiber-optic sensor array.
IBM InfoSphere Streams is a high-performance computing technology that enables rapid analysis of information in real-time as it streams from thousands of sources, increasing the speed and accuracy of decision making. Adelos S4 also integrates acoustic sensor technology licensed from the U.S. Navy and is designed to meet growing security demands from the government, energy, public safety and transportation sectors.
