Katzenberg, Landau Talk 3D in New York

Paul Kagan to Interview Avatar Producer and DreamWorks Animation CEO Oct. 27

CARMEL, Calif. — (BUSINESS WIRE) — September 23, 2010 — The two film industry executives most identified with the new cinema world of 3D motion pictures—Avatar and Titanic producer Jon Landau and the industry’s most vocal proponent of the new 3D wave, DreamWorks Animation CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg—will be featured speakers at media analyst Paul Kagan’s conference on 3D MEDIA MARKETS Wed. Oct. 27 at the Waldorf-Astoria in New York City.

Working with James Cameron under the Lightstorm Entertainment banner, Landau co-produced Dick Tracy and Honey, I Shrunk the Kids. At 20th Century Fox, he supervised production of Mrs. Doubtfire, True Lies, Last of the Mohicans and many more. But all these have been topped by the complexity and beauty of the breakthrough visual effects in Avatar, which has lifted the art and technology of film to levels never before contemplated. Accordingly, Avatar and Titanic are considered the two highest-grossing films of all time.

Jeffrey Katzenberg made an early entry into the future 3D Hall of Fame by declaring—five years ago—that all of the films produced by his studio would be made for 3D. He made what was then the radical declaration that 3D would rank with sound and color as one of the three greatest achievements in feature film production. He co-founded DreamWorks SKG with Steven Spielberg and David Geffen in 1994, producing, among other hits, American Beauty, Gladiator and A Beautiful Mind. For DreamWorks Animation, he brought to the screen such hits as Shrek, Madagascar, Monsters vs. Aliens and How To Train Your Dragon. Earlier, he was Chairman of The Walt Disney Studios, where his tenure included Who Framed Roger Rabbit, The Little Mermaid, Aladdin, The Lion King and Beauty and the Beast plus such live action hits as Good Morning, Vietnam and Pretty Woman.

The Kagan conference is sponsored by Panasonic and its Ideas For Life. The program will feature leading executives from the fields of theatrical exhibition, TV distribution, videogaming, 3D technology, advertising/marketing and media finance. Analyst Paul Kagan, through comprehensive statistical analysis and publications, strategic conference presentations and a keen eye for emergence of new trends, has made early discovery of new trends in cable, satellite and telco TV, broadcasting, telecommunications and wireless industries. “3D,” Kagan says, “is a natural progression in media technology and exhibition.”
