3-GIS Announces Product Preview: BlackBerry Application Working in Disconnected Mode

San Diego, California – July 12, 2010 - 3-GIS, a GIS product development and services company, has announced the creation of a BlackBerry® smartphone application that allows users to collect and modify data in a disconnected environment. 3-GIS will preview and demonstrate this new product, a hybrid of the 3-GIS Buzz application, at the ESRI International User Conference in San Diego, California from July 12-16, 2010.

The 3-GIS Buzz application was developed to give BlackBerry users the ability to view and query GIS data, but the user had to be within range of a working cellular network tower in order to collect and sync data.

“With the introduction of this product, we allow users to continue collecting data while working in a remote location,” says Tom Counts, President of 3-GIS. “Then, the data can be easily synced back to the system when the user is within range.”

This new version of Buzz is equipped with a Sybase® SQL Anywhere® database that stores and synchronizes data captured on the BlackBerry device.

“We are excited to work with 3-GIS to bring forward a product that customers have been asking for,” says David Jonker, Group Manager of Product Marketing for Sybase. “Developing smartphone applications with proven mobile middleware enables solutions like 3-GIS Buzz for disconnected operation, which will be particularly helpful to damage assessment crews working in areas struck by a natural disaster.”
