SuperWebGIS Supports Decision-Making for Transportation Agencies

June 03, 2010 -- Taiwan Executive Yuan establishes a system to support policy-making for diverse Transportation sectors by integrating information from several units and databases. The system utilizes SuperWebGIS, the Internet Map Server Software developed by SuperGeo Technologies.

Transportation system contains diversified types, including road, railway, subway, port, airline, etc. The relationship between each transportation facility could be competitive and also collaborative, so the process of decision-making and budget-allocating is complex, too.

Executive Yuan, the highest administrative agency in Taiwan, plans to create a complete and circumspect analysis mode which can facilitate the central examine unit, Institute of Transportation, Ministry of Transportation and Communication (MOTC), to assess each transportation sector’s long-term infrastructure, grasp the direction of transportation system development, and raise the benefit of the distribution of the entire resources.

Given that, a WebGIS platform is built to use the institute’s entire transportation development assessment as the basics to integrate all of the transportation-related information systems, databases, and the data in different units to be the important references for planning transportation system development.

The system adopts SuperWebGIS 2.1 as the internet map server platform and uses Transportation Plan and Integration Database as the core database. It effectively integrates several databases and related planning tools with other transportation-related data systems in a visualization way on the maps.

Moreover, the system not only allows each transportation sector to submit, query, and analyze the plans, but also facilitates Institute of Transportation to manage the relationship among the transportation plans to assess and examine the plans. As a result, the resources would be used effectively to support better decision-making and budget-allocation for transportation-related policies.
