2010 International Commercial Remote Sensing Symposium Hugely Successful

WASHINGTON — (BUSINESS WIRE) — March 12, 2010 — USGIF, NOAA and the Department of Commerce brought together business and government leaders from around the globe for the 2010 International Commercial Remote Sensing Symposium (ICRSS), which took place March 3 - 5. The event exceeded all expectations with a max capacity exhibit area and registration numbers of almost 400 attendees.

Feedback on the event has been overwhelmingly positive. Both speakers and attendees have expressed desire for ICRSS to become a reoccurring and must-attend event. From its strong agenda of speakers and topics to the ample amount of innovative technologies and organizations, attendees found ICRSS to be well worth its admission.

The symposium attracted attendees from 17 different countries including: Austria, Canada, Germany, India, Israel, Italy, Japan, Nigeria, Singapore, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, United Arab Emirates and United Kingdom.

Roughly 33 percent of attendees were from government and military organizations such as the European Space Agency, NGA, U.S. Navy, OSD, U.S. Air Force, ODNI, NRO, Los Alamos National Lab, DHS, CIA, State Department and the U.S. Army, Navy, Air Force and Coast Guard. Capitol Hill was also well represented with staffers from the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence and Senate Select Committee on Intelligence as well as attendees from the offices of Sen. Udall, Rep. Ruppersberger, Rep. Tiahrt, Sen. Webb and Sen. Roberts.

In parallel of its mission to promote educational success within the tradecraft, USGIF provided academia the opportunity to attend by discounting their admission rate and drawing students from George Mason University, George Washington University, Gettysburg College, National University of Singapore and Washington College.

The 2010 ICRSS provided three days of discussions and exhibits on key issues affecting the community. Mary Glackin, deputy under secretary of NOAA, Dennis Hightower, deputy secretary of Commerce and Rep. C.A. Dutch Ruppersberger, D-Md., all gave keynote addresses. GeoEye, DigitalGlobe, ERDAS, Infoterra, Riverside Research Institute, Compusult, Spot Image, Applied Imagery, Fugro EarthData, GIS Development, Pictometry, Geospatial Intelligence Forum, DMC International Imaging and NGA exhibited their latest remote sensing capabilities and solutions for the community.

USGIF is a 501(c)(3) non-profit educational foundation dedicated to promoting the geospatial intelligence tradecraft and developing a stronger GEOINT Community with government, industry, academia, professional organizations and individuals whose mission is the development and application of geospatial intelligence to address national security challenges.
