Daimler, Voith and Safran Headline LMS Engineering Simulation Conference

Changing global economy to raise the bar for engineers around the world

More than 200 experts met in Munich, Germany on February 24-25, 2010 to discuss trends in product engineering and the next frontier in simulation: model-based system engineering.

Finding the right balance between the new green economy and continuously improving the user experience requires innovation in product development. The necessity of incorporating controls and mechatronic aspects into system-level simulation further mandates new ways of applying simulation throughout the entire development process.

Dr. Urbain Vandeurzen, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, LMS International: “As Dr. Pletschen from Daimler stated in his enlightening keynote on NVH engineering challenges, there is certainly a need for a proactive rather than a reactive approach in our changing business environment. We received very positive feedback on the LMS forward strategy to provide breakthrough product and process innovation to develop world-class next-generation products with appealing functional performances while meeting today’s fuel consumption and CO² reduction requirements. The energy and enthusiasm generated by the 200 engineering experts that attended our event in Munich endorses our commitment to help customers drive innovation forward to create the best possible products for this paradigm shift in the world economy.”

Further joining the keynote session were Dr. Bernhard Höfig of Voith Turbo, who presented an interesting perspective on the changes required in system simulation to successfully develop bus hybrid drivetrains, and Mr. Catalin Perju of Safran Labinal, who shared his personal insight into the new aeronautics era and the challenges of Electrical Wiring Integrated System (EWIS) development in next-generation aircraft.

Dr. Jan Leuridan, Executive Vice-President and Chief Technical Officer, LMS International: “What we heard at our simulation conference confirms our strategy and vision regarding model-based system engineering for mechatronic product development. It drives continuous innovation and is reflected in the product roadmaps of our cutting-edge system simulation applications. And it enables our customers to cope with their product and process innovation challenges.”
