SIGGRAPH Computer Graphics Conference Announces 2010 Call for Submissions

CHICAGO — (BUSINESS WIRE) — November 23, 2009 — ACM SIGGRAPH announces the 2010 Call for Submissions for contributors and volunteers for the 37th International Conference and Exhibition on Computer Graphics and Interactive Techniques, Sunday 25 July – Thursday, 29 July 2010 at the Los Angeles Convention Center in Los Angeles, California.

SIGGRAPH 2010 will bring together the “People Behind the Pixels” - the brightest minds in computer graphics to share ideas and knowledge on many diverse industry disciplines. From students to studio executives, from scientists to researchers, SIGGRAPH provides contributors with the opportunity to present their work to the world.

Exciting changes in 2010 include the new SIGGRAPH Dailies! program celebrating excellence in computer graphics by showcasing images and short animations of extraordinary power and beauty. Contributors are invited to submit short (5-15 second) animations of recent work (from the last 18 months), whether professional, personal, academic or student work. Complete details can be found at http://www.siggraph.org/s2010/for_submitters/siggraph_dailies.

“Each year the technical content presented at SIGGRAPH gets more and more impressive. So it’s the goal each year, to improve upon the years past – a challenging but rewarding task,” stated Terrence Masson, SIGGRAPH 2010 Conference Chair from Northeastern University. “Expanding submission categories and extending deadlines open the pool of contributions to much wider spectrums of the whole industry ensuring the presence of more great content than ever before.”

Also new for 2010 is the addition of the Computer Animation Shorts submission category to the renowned festival in order to incorporate animated short pieces that contain a significant percentage of computer-generated imagery and/or digital production. Works can include independent shorts, character animation, sponsored creative explorations, narrative and experimental works, opening sequences, game cinematics, selections and/or montages of animated television series, machinima, and new-media formats. In past years, contributors to the Computer Animation Festival adhered to two deadlines for submission - one for partially completed works, and a later deadline for when that work was completed. This year’s later deadline for the Computer Animation Festival now provides contributors with more time to prepare their works for the final submission deadline on 19 April 2010.

Every piece submitted to SIGGRAPH 2010 through the Call for Submissions is reviewed by a highly qualified jury composed of top practitioners in the relevant field. Because each jury needs time to carefully review each piece, submission deadlines generally are several months ahead of the conference itself. All the submission deadlines are strictly enforced. Contributors are encouraged to plan accordingly.

Important submission deadlines are as follows:

Game Papers: Monday, 4 January 2010

Art Gallery and Art Papers: Thursday, 7 January 2010

Technical Papers: Tuesday, 19 January 2010

Student Volunteers Applications: Monday, 15 February 2010

*All deadlines are 22:00 UTC/GMT. To determine what time that is where you are, you can use a converter such as The World Clock.
