New NLPG License is Perfect for Smaller Organisations

November 18, 2009 -- The NLPG (National Land and Property Gazetteer) is more accessible than ever thanks to a new license that makes it attractive for smaller organisations such as Housing Associations and Primary Care Trusts. The NLPG, which covers England and Wales, can now be licensed for smaller geographical areas which brings down the cost considerably for organisations with small areas of interest.

The NLPG is run on behalf of local government by the Improvement and Development Agency (IDeA) with Intelligent Addressing (IA) as the national custodian.

Until recently, subsets of the NLPG were only available commercially by Government Office Region. The new license enables users to licence NLPG data based on local authority boundaries with pricing based on the number of BLPUs (Basic Land and Property Unit) in the area. This renders the NLPG instantly affordable for many organisations. In addition the new pricing structure offers multi-year discounts for those taking out 2 and 3 year licenses, providing further encouragement to those wishing to use the NLPG to serve their businesses over the longer term. A new price list for every Local Authority has also been published on the NLPG website.

The first organisation to take advantage of the new license is the Trafford Housing Trust which looks after 9,300 affordable properties within the Trafford Area of Greater Manchester. “The NLPG will initially provide us with a ‘sense’ check for the Trust’s current property data records which will be data matched. It will be used subsequently to underpin our new CRM system,” said Bob Dodds, Business Support Manager, at the Trafford Housing Trust. “The NLPG will provide us with the definitive address component for all the Trusts’ housing assets moving forward,” continued Dodds.

“Making the NLPG available in smaller slices has an immediate impact on cost and renders it affordable for many commercial users,” said Nick Turner, Business Development Manager at Intelligent Addressing. “Using the NLPG also makes it possible to share data and intelligence with other users of the NLPG including Local Authorities and the emergency services. Additionally contractors working for licensees can also use the data for official business. This is particularly useful, for example, in the case of Housing Associations using external contractors to carry out maintenance and repairs on their properties, “ continued Turner.
