SHP Leading Design Employees Receive AIA Ohio Award

CINCINNATI — (BUSINESS WIRE) — September 29, 2009 — Allison Beer and Jessica Farmer of SHP Leading Design were awarded 1st place, Urban category, for their entry in the AIA Ohio Affordable Green Home Design Competition to benefit Habitat for Humanity. Ms. Beer is an Architect and the Director of Sustainability and Ms. Farmer is a Project Designer for the firm.

As 1st place winners in the Urban category, they will receive $1,000 and a contract to take their design and produce the construction documents for the Cincinnati Habitat for Humanity affiliate. Competing against Suburban and Rural categories, their entry will also be sent to the AIA Ohio Valley Regional Convention where it will be reviewed for the best of show award on October 2nd in Covington, KY.

“This competition was an outstanding opportunity to make a difference,” Beer stated. “It was an honor to use our knowledge regarding sustainable design and apply it to such a worthy cause.”

The AIA Ohio Affordable Green Home Competition is a statewide initiative to provide affordable green home designs that will benefit all 70 Habitat for Humanity affiliates in Ohio. There are three submission categories to respond to the specific programmatic and contextual needs found in several different site conditions. Those categories are as follows: Rural, Suburban, and Urban. Winners were selected within each category for their response to flexibility, resource efficiency, aesthetic quality, and budget.
