Moves to Bentley Geospatial Server for Enterprise GIS and Bentley Cadastre for Data Editing
EXTON, Pa. – Sept. 2, 2009 – Bentley Systems, Incorporated, the leading company dedicated to providing comprehensive software solutions for the infrastructure that sustains our world, today announced that the Emirate of Sharjah, Directorate of Town Planning and Survey (DTPS), United Arab Emirates, has successfully deployed Bentley’s fully integrated cadastral solution. The solution incorporates an enterprise geospatial information system (GIS) based on Bentley Geospatial Server and a computer-aided design (CAD) data editing system based on Bentley Cadastre. Called the Integrated Land Management Solution (ILMS), the new system replaces one configured using separate GIS and CAD workflows. Because data from each workflow was stored in independent silos, DTPS often faced data inconsistencies between CAD files and the spatial data store, along with data validation and quality control problems. In addition, the legacy system failed to provide an enterprise workflow with standardized approval processes or audit trails, leading to inefficiencies and further quality issues. The new ILMS overcomes these challenges by integrating DTPS’s GIS and CAD workflows and creating a single spatial data store. As a result, all of the departments within DTPS now benefit from standardized workflows and approval processes, high-quality data, and enhanced efficiencies – enabling them to better meet the needs of the citizens and organizations they serve within the emirate.
“Our frustration with the quality of data in our legacy GIS focused our attention on integrating our GIS and CAD workflows,” said Mr. Ahmed Al Khatib, head of GIS data management, DTPS. “Bentley’s ability to provide an enterprise GIS that works seamlessly with Oracle Spatial met our needs for standardized workflows, audit trails, security, enterprise printing and plotting, and more. Moreover, the unique capabilities of Bentley Cadastre as an editing environment are attractive to any organization involved with land management and parcel management workflows.”
Mr. Al Khatib continued, “The DTPS is a forward-looking and progressive government corporation. Our mandate is to consistently provide the citizens, businesses, industries, and institutions within the Emirate of Sharjah with the highest level of services, and we firmly believe the capabilities of our new Bentley cadastre and land management solution will enable us to do just that.”
The Bentley Geospatial Server provides the DTPS staff with ready access to the spatial data store. This enables all of the departments within DTPS, including survey, planning, public services, land registration, and GIS, to leverage authorizations, audits, and logs of actions taken to help expedite the services they provide. At the same time, those staff members editing CAD files can access the spatial data stored in Oracle Spatial 10g to insure data consistency and quality across the enterprise. The Bentley Geospatial Server also provides DTPS with enterprise printing and plotting, and controlled, standardized workflows for editing and approvals.
All data editing is being done using Bentley Cadastre’s specialized capabilities. Built on the powerful Bentley Map desktop GIS, Bentley Cadastre is an efficient application for creating, maintaining, and analyzing land information. It can address any type of land management requirement, including parcel management and taxation, agricultural land management, easement, and right-of-way maintenance.
DTPS has also implemented Bentley Descartes for imaging and document conversion. Fully integrated with MicroStation, Bentley Descartes provides high-performance raster operations and enables users to quickly warp, reference, resample, mosaic, and reproject images. Users also can create image scenes for visualization and analysis with 3D terrain draping.
