Mapping and routing components for desktop software with new functions

Karlsruhe, — July 27, 2009 — The new release of PTV MapServer is now available. It provides updated maps with toll tables and environmental zones which are taken into account during the routing process. The tool also includes new features for routing and logistical optimisation methods. The new PTV MapServer is based on COM. It allows users to easily embed digital maps, route calculation or other geo- functionalities.

The PTV MapServer is available for Windows environments. It provides developers with a complete range of functions available to map&guide users. It is therefore the most comprehensive software development kit for geographical and logistical applications currently on the market.

Software developers using the PTV MapServer can embed exactly the digital map functions they need, such as features for importing and administering own addresses, displaying the data on the map, exact geocoding of addresses and POIs, marking individual objects on a map and searching for objects within a specific radius.

Logistical functions, such as pan-European route calculation, including toll charges and the display of GPS vehicle positions on a digital map, can be integrated without problem. Moreover, it is possible to include specific information, such as individual streets or types of streets closed by the user, in the route calculation process (e.g. inner-city streets closed for heavy goods vehicles).

All functions can be integrated via standard interfaces, which means that the user interface remains the same. Software developers can always embed exactly the functions they need. PTV MapServer supports all standard programming languages (C++, Delphi, Visual Basic, .NET, Java) and databases (SQL, Access, Oracle or DB2) required during the import of address data, for example.
