SmartBIM QTO™ Empowers Architects with Fast and Simple Construction Estimating

Reed Construction Data’s latest BIM offering delivers instant counts and RSMeans cost estimates with the click of a button

Reed Construction Data (www.reedconstructiondata.com/), a leading provider of building information modeling (BIM) solutions and construction information, today announced the launch its newest BIM offering, SmartBIM QTO. This time- and cost-saving BIM tool is an effective solution for Autodesk® Revit® users that provides a quantity takeoff and early cost estimate in a matter of seconds using RSMeans industry-leading cost data.

The speed and automation of SmartBIM QTO allows architects and designers to check or refine costs for a project as they go, eliminating expensive and time-consuming efforts to redesign projects to meet budget demands. As a project changes, architects also have the freedom to run estimates for multiple design options to facilitate “what-if” scenarios. After an estimate is created, any line item can by edited manually allowing users to input their own costs or further refine the estimate using the RSMeans CostWorks database.

“One of Reed’s core goals is to make the adoption of BIM easier,” said Rich Remington, Vice President of Product Development, Reed Construction Data. “By combining intuitive software with industry-leading cost data, SmartBIM QTO addresses several of the AEC industry’s fundamental needs.”

SmartBIM QTO simplifies collaboration on early costing among manufacturers, architects, engineers, contractors and building owners. Cost and quantity data can be exported to Microsoft® Excel or Adobe® PDF as a full project or by a specific Revit category. Non-Revit users can also open and edit SmartBIM QTO files to refine a takeoff initially generated from a Revit model.

SmartBIM QTO’s interface also includes guidelines describing best practices for modeling objects in Revit. These guidelines include modeling advice for each Revit category, recommended family and type name conventions, tips on modeling for “count ability” and design representation.

SmartBIM Library is sold through authorized SmartBIM solutions providers. For more information, visit www.reedconstructiondata.com/bim/qto.
