3-GIS Announces Release of TIMS 5.0: Transmission Inspection Application Approved by EPRI

July 02, 2009 -- 3-GIS, an Alabama based software development and services company, has announced the release of Version 5.0 of the Transmission Inspection & Maintenance System (TIMS), a user friendly tool that provides a precise graphic depiction of electric transmission equipment so accurate maintenance records can be created, collected, and maintained.

Originally created by the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI), 3-GIS obtained exclusive rights to enhance, support and market TIMS in 2006. TIMS allows utilities to locate, record and report transmission line and structure conditions easily and precisely. In the field, TIMS’s precise structure rendering allows an inspector to note precisely where on a structure an issue is located. In addition, TIMS allows for the capture of images in the field and the recording of additional structure information. In the office, TIMS provides a supervisor with numerous tools to assist in the management of the reported conditions. TIMS is also equipped with pre-formatted reports to meet regulatory compliance and automate inspection records management. In version 5.0, TIMS has been upgraded to the latest software standards, providing a Windows compliant interface that is faster and simpler to use than previous versions.

This month, two existing TIMS users, San Diego Gas & Electric and Central Hudson Gas & Electric, will roll out the upgraded version. “With the process improvements in version 5.0, TIMS will allow a utility to better track maintenance issues and better comply with regulatory requirements” says Eric Fulcher, Vice President of Utilities at 3-GIS.
