DigitalGlobe Awarded Contract for Rapid Delivery of Geospatial Intelligence for National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA)

Contract Provides NGA with New Web Services Delivery and Service Timeliness for Unclassified Imagery Products

LONGMONT, Colo. — (BUSINESS WIRE) — June 18, 2009 —  DigitalGlobe, a leading global content provider of high-resolution world imagery solutions, today announced that the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA) has awarded DigitalGlobe a contract to enable a “Rapid Delivery of Online Geospatial-Intelligence” (RDOG). DigitalGlobe is providing NGA with unclassified imagery-derived products and services in support of NGA’s mission to develop imagery and map-based intelligence solutions for U.S. national defense, homeland security and safety of navigation. Providing an industry-first solution that enables near real-time access to daily image collections, DigitalGlobe will utilize standard web services to enable rapid dissemination of the latest NextView-licensed imagery of specified areas to the National System for GEOINT (NSG) within 24 hours of collection. In addition to delivering web mapping services (WMS) for commercial imagery on a daily basis, DigitalGlobe will also provide a nearly cloud-free foundation layer of tonally balanced, country-wide, one-degree geo-cells on a new quarterly collection schedule.

“We are very proud to offer an innovative, new world imagery solution that provides unprecedented support to the war-fighter with high-value, near-real-time images through DigitalGlobe's web services solutions,” said Jeff Kerridge, DigitalGlobe’s senior vice president. “DigitalGlobe has continued to expand its service levels and image producing flexibility to better address the broad array of user requirements and demand for faster imagery availability worldwide.”

This contract will have a minimal impact on 2009 revenue.

Using a combination of DigitalGlobe Web Services and its High Performance Computing (HPC) production environment, DigitalGlobe will contribute high-value, time-dominant services to the NSG. The Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) solution designed by DigitalGlobe supports multiple third-party commercial applications and US Government enterprise applications. Based on Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) standards, RDOG provides a combination of on-line services and off-line products tailored directly for military operators, force protection planners and humanitarian assistance end-users.

RDOG will deliver NextView-licensed imagery in several flexible formats (KIP, KML Super-Overlay, GeoTIFF, GeoPDF, MrSid, JPEG 2000, and others) to meet the broad array of end-user requirements for the GEOINT community and insure RDOG’s service flexibility across the NSG.
