Toshiba Expands PLCC-2 High-Brightness White LED Line With Warm White Offerings

High-brightness, surface mount LEDs provide excellent color uniformity

IRVINE, Calif., June 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Toshiba America Electronic Components, Inc., (TAEC)* has expanded its lineup of compact, high-efficiency white light emitting diodes (LEDs) with three devices in PLCC-2 packages in daylight (or cool) white and two warm whites. These white LEDs are among the brightest white LEDs in Toshiba's current LED product line in this form factor.

"Toshiba has added these new white LEDs to address the market requirements for interior lighting, automotive and LCD backlight applications. We are aggressively introducing high-quality white lights that are capable of high color uniformity and brightness," said Roger Shih, business development engineer, optoelectronics, for TAEC.

The daylight white TLWK1100C LED delivers luminous intensity of 1700 millicandelas (mcd) from a drive current of 20mA. This new device is 200 mcd brighter than the previous generation TLWK1100B, one of Toshiba's most popular white LEDs, and is well-suited for use in automotive and LCD backlighting applications. At 86 lumens per watt (lm/W), it features luminous flux (typ.) of 5.5 lumens (lm), color temperature of 6500K and chromaticity coordinates of Cx 0.31 and Cy 0.30.

Two new warm white devices for general and backlighting applications include the TLWWK1100B and the TLWLK1100B. These LEDs feature luminous intensity of 1500mcd. Both devices are offered at 77 lm/W and feature luminous flux (typ.) of 4.9 lm, and color temperature of 3500K and 3000K, respectively. The 3500K device has chromaticity coordinates of Cx 0.40 and Cy 0.39, and the 3000K device has chromaticity coordinates of Cx 0.44 and Cy 0.40.

All three LEDs are housed in a standard PLCC-2 surface-mount package that measures 3.2mm x 2.9mm x 1.9mm. Their high brightness white light output is a result of a combination of a blue InGaN (indium gallium nitride) LED and a yellow-emitting phosphor. The devices offer efficient operation with maximum power dissipation of 114mW and typical forward voltage (V(F)) of 3.2V. Operating temperature ranges from -40 degrees C to 100 degrees C.
