GSA Public Buildings Service Expands Usage of Construction Project Management Software from Meridian Systems

Post-pilot phase of program includes increased systems and supply chain integration and training

FOLSOM, Calif. (June 2, 2009) - Meridian Systems, the Plan-Build-Operate technology solutions leader for project-based organizations, announced today that the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) Public Buildings Service (PBS) has completed the pilot phase of its electronic project management (ePM) initiative. The ePM solution is built upon Proliance® software for construction project management.

During the next twelve months, 3,200 users, many of them outside the GSA and across the country, will begin managing both large and small projects with ePM. The scope includes integration with internal GSA systems, rolling out to the wide-ranging GSA supply chain of construction managers and general contractors, and customized training content for both online and classroom delivery.

ePM will be a critical solution for the GSA to manage both their traditional amount of projects, and the additional project volume and requirements resulting from the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act (The Recovery Act). In general, the GSA manages the renovation of existing government buildings and constructing new ones, including court houses and border control stations. The Recovery Act provides an additional US$5.55 billion for renovation projects that will also be managed through ePM.

"The GSA PBS is a market driver for creating efficiencies for the industry," says John Bodrozic, president at Meridian Systems. "To be supporting them in their efforts is very fulfilling. The GSA PBS actions can drive our industry more quickly towards the interoperability of software systems with their use of Proliance - a platform that's designed to support that interoperability."

PBS is the largest public real estate organization in the country, with an inventory of over 342 million square feet of workspace. Proliance was selected in 2008 as part of an open and competitive Request for Proposal (RFP) process to procure one software central system of record for managing all construction project data. Proliance software can improve capital project performance by streamlining the plan-build-operate lifecycle, and reduce development, construction and facility costs.
