The webcast, scheduled for Tuesday, April 21 at 1:00 p.m. Eastern time, will highlight how public safety and security agencies can access the funds available from the nearly $800 million American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) of 2009.
For public safety agencies, the stimulus plan provides: $4 billion for state and local law enforcement agencies; $210 million to build and upgrade fire stations and $8.8 billion for state block grants to aid states in defraying budget cuts. ARRA funding for security agencies includes: $720 million for improving security at the border and ports of entry; $150 million for the security of ports; $1.1 billion for improving airport security and $150 million for the security of transit systems.
In leading the webcast, Cooper will draw from his 30 years of experience working with justice and public safety agencies and his work with the CJIS Group, the leading provider of criminal justice, public safety and homeland security market research. Webcast participants will also benefit from Cooper's extensive knowledge of available funding opportunities, which he tracks on a daily basis. The program will conclude with a question and answer session allowing participants to ask Cooper questions specific to Department of Justice (DOJ) and Department of Homeland Security (DHS) funding opportunities, as well as queries relating to their individual agencies.
According to Cooper, "DOJ and DHS grant monies that can be used to procure information technology have increased from $3.9B in 2008 to $7.5B in 2009. The benefit is clear for those justice and public safety agencies prepared to take advantage of the funding. Through its webcast Intergraph's efforts to inform justice and public safety agencies about the availability of funding in these tough economic times serves a critical national need."
The webcast is part of a larger, Intergraph-led initiative to educate public safety and security personnel about available grant writing assistance and funding opportunities to advance their efforts to serve and protect their communities. Intergraph's grant funding education program also includes a Web portal featuring links to a variety of online resources including relevant news articles, sources for funding, consultancies and grant writing workshops.
