OGC® announces HellasGI Greek Interoperability Day

BONN, Germany—(BUSINESS WIRE)—March 25, 2009— The Open Geospatial Consortium, Inc. OGC® announces that an Interoperability Day event will be held in conjunction with HellasGI on Friday the 3rd of April, 2009 at the Ledra Marriot Hotel in Athens, Greece.

OGC standards are becoming widely used in the geospatial world and they hold the key to building geospatial data infrastructures based on interoperable components. The EU supports wider adoption of these and other standards through the INSPIRE directive.

While market demand for standards-compliant components is growing, many end users have questions about how the standards work and how the standards will benefit them in their day to day business. Users also have questions about how the standards are being implemented at the national and European levels.

Attendees at the OGC & HellasGI Greek Interoperability Day will have a chance to get first-hand answers to such questions. The presentation sessions will feature experts from the OGC, governmental organizations, universities and companies. Interested organisations can sponsor the meeting and their support will be recognized during the meeting and on the events website (see below). Sponsors will also have opportunities to provide information materials during the meeting. For further information, please contact Athina Trakas ( Email Contact).

The language of this free, day-long event will be mainly Greek, though some of the presentations will be in English. The detailed program and registration instructions are available at: http://www.opengeospatial.org/event/090403interop.

About The Open Geospatial Consortium

The OGC® is an international consortium of more than 370 companies, government agencies, research organizations, and universities participating in a consensus process to develop publicly available geospatial standards. OpenGIS(R) Standards support interoperable solutions that "geo-enable" the Web, wireless and location-based services, and mainstream IT. OGC Standards empower technology developers to make geospatial information and services accessible and useful with any application that needs to be geospatially enabled.
