San Juan County, NM renews and extends oblique imagery and LiDAR contract with Pictometry

Rochester, NY, – February 26, 2009 – Pictometry International Corp., a leading provider of geo-referenced aerial image libraries whose patented and proprietary technology is used globally to capture oblique imagery, announces that its contract for oblique imagery with San Juan County , New Mexico has been renewed and expanded. Under terms of the new agreement, new oblique imagery of the county will be captured by Pictometry along with an additional 245 square miles of LiDAR.

“ San Juan County utilizes Pictometry products in day-to-day operations because the technology enables us to significantly improve our operational efficiencies, reduce expenses, and better manage community growth,” said Sandi Spencer, GIS Coordinator for San Juan County . Spencer noted that the additional LiDAR component of the contract will be utilized by the county to update its digital elevation models and mapping contour lines, tools the county uses to identify and update floodplains.

The county began utilizing Pictometry image solutions in 2007. Since then the imagery has been integrated into various county departments including the San Juan Sheriff’s Department, which relies on the imagery in emergency response and 9-1-1- dispatch scenarios. Similarly, county fire operations use the imagery to locate water sources and access roads when responding to calls. San Juan County assessors also utilize the imagery to reduce property visits by visually inspecting the properties from their computer desktops. (In many instances, counties around the country report that savings associated with the use of Pictometry technologies in assessment offset the initial cost of investment in the first year of use.) Under terms of the agreement, the following county entities will have access to the new imagery, which will be flown and processed this spring including: the cities of Aztec, Bloomfield, Farmington, Farmington Electrical Department, Aztec Ruins, Chaco Culture National Historical Park, San Juan College and BLM Farmington Field Office.

Unlike traditional orthogonal imagery which is captured at an angle directly overhead to produce “roof top” views, Pictometry’s aerial image capture process captures imagery from an angle. As a result, Pictometry’s oblique imagery reveals greater detail of a property and provides users with high resolution views from multiple directions, including overhead views. Pictometry imagery is geo-referenced and is typically licensed to customers together with measuring software. Counties in 48 states across America , including 30 counties in the State of Georgia , currently use Pictometry technologies.

“Pictometry tools enable users to redefine their productivity, which is critical -- especially in today’s challenging economy,” said Dante Pennacchia, Pictometry’s Chief Marketing Officer. “When you have a tool that gives you full visual detail of locations, no matter where you are – on the road or in the office – you have a tool that lets you work better, faster and smarter.”

Pictometry International Corp. is a leading provider of geo-referenced, aerial image libraries and related software. Pictometry has captured over 50 million digital aerial images in over 600 counties in the United States covering over 70 percent of the United States population. Using its proprietary imaging process, Pictometry® captures geo-referenced, high-resolution oblique (at an angle, producing a 3-D like view) and orthogonal (straight down) Intelligent Images®, within which structures and land features can be measured. Pictometry customizes and markets these technologies for government and commercial applications, offering non-traditional software solutions to aerial imaging needs. Pictometry’s imagery and software enables users to “See Everywhere, Measure Anything, Plan Everything”® using a patented digital information system.
