Guttmann & Blaevoet Selects IES’ Modeling Solutions for Design of Sustainable Buildings

BOSTON—(BUSINESS WIRE)—February 3, 2009— Integrated Environmental Solutions (IES), a provider of integrated performance analysis software for sustainable building design, today announced engineering firm Guttmann & Blaevoet selected its IES <Virtual Environment> for energy modeling solutions. Using the full service VE-Pro, Guttmann & Blaevoet streamlined its design process and overall building performance, specifically when designing architectural, mechanical and lighting applications. The engineering firm uses IES’ solution to determine day-lighting controls and thermal mass, as well as how radiant technologies can reduce overall energy impact.

Guttmann & Blaevoet selected IES’ Architectural Suites for its easy-to-use interface and complete compatibility with the BIM platform Autodesk® Revit®. Guttmann & Blaevoet provides mechanical, electrical, plumbing and telecom consulting-engineering services, as well as commissioning/Retro Cx to architects and building owners and building performance modeling ties it all together. It is extremely important to have whole building design tools available to continue to deliver award-winning, sustainable buildings with healthy and productive indoor environments.

“Working with IES was a natural fit for Guttmann & Blaevoet with our dedication to sustainable engineering solutions. After researching a number of industry tools, we selected IES for its easy interface and interoperability with Revit. The combination of these two tools creates an ideal working environment for us,” said Ted Tiffany, energy and building performance modeling manager of Guttmann & Blaevoet. “We were pleasantly surprised at how effortlessly we could transition from the Revit model to IES’ tools. We look forward to continuing our partnership with IES and are excited to see what’s next.”

“Guttmann & Blaevoet is an ideal candidate for our <Virtual Environment> modeling solutions,” said Dr. Don McLean, founder and managing director of IES. “The firm truly understands the importance of sustainable design and it is great to see that our solution has helped them drive productivity and efficiency throughout the overall process.”

The IES <Virtual Environment> provides building designers with the ability to customize analysis to fit their needs, specifically in energy consumption, carbon emissions, LEED Daylighting, Architecture 2030 Challenge benchmarking, thermal comfort, solar shading and penetration, and many others. The tools are also integrated around a central 3D model that can connect directly with Google SketchUp™, Autodesk Revit and via gbXML along with other 3D design tools – allowing users to easily and quickly fit performance analysis into design workflow without rebuilding geometry.
