geographIT® Recognized By Preservation Award

Lancaster, Pennsylvania (October 1, 2008) – Preservation Pennsylvania, a private non-profit, membership organization dedicated to the protection of historically and architecturally significant properties awarded the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation Bureau of Design’s Project Keystone team the “Initiative Award for Communication” ( http://www.preservationpa.org/programs/awards/index.php).

Project Keystone ( www.pastonearch.org) was recognized “for producing a user-friendly and publicly accessible management plan and maintenance manual for stone arch bridges within the PennDOT Engineering District 6-0 including the City of Philadelphia, Bucks County, Chester County, Delaware County and Montgomery County.” geographIT designed and implemented the user-friendly web GIS application to search and find stone arch bridge locations, then view photographs and reports about the bridges. Other members of Project Keystone included the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and Skelly and Loy, Inc.

Preservation Pennsylvania’s Historic Preservation Awards which started in 1979, “recognize significant contributions in the field of historic preservation made by both individuals and organizations. Recognition encompasses the categories of preservation initiatives, construction and archaeology projects.”
