03 October 2019 - Digital Construction Week returns for its fifth year at London ExCeL on 16-17 October, with a host of new exhibitors and speakers. The event is known for its impressive lineup with 10 free-to-attend theatres covering everything from BIM to GIS, skills and training to business transformation, connected cities to DfMA, and much more besides.
New for 2019 is the Construction Innovation Hub theatre, which will feature sessions focused on transforming construction through manufacturing technologies and digital ways of working.
The theatre is the result of DCW’s partnership with the Construction Innovation Hub, an organisation that launched 12 months ago to drive innovation and technological advances in UK construction. Financed through a £72 million investment from UK Research and Innovation’s Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund, it aims to change the way buildings and infrastructure are designed, manufactured, integrated and connected within our built environment.
The Hub brings together world-class expertise from the Manufacturing Technology Centre (MTC), Building Research Establishment (BRE) and the Centre for Digital Built Britain (CDBB) to transform the UK construction industry.
Visitors to DCW and to the Hub theatre can look forward to two days of free seminars and workshops, with leading speakers from the MTC, CDBB, and the BRE alongside a host of exciting presentations from those outside the Hub that are driving innovation and technology forward in the built environment.
Sessions to watch out for include a fireside chat with Hannah Vickers, CEO of the Association for Consultancy and Engineering (ACE) and Keith Waller, programme director for the Construction Innovation Hub. They’ll be discussing key findings from the CLC’s work on Procuring for Value, showcasing the detailed research led by ACE on Value Based Business models and launching an exciting new collaboration to progress the value agenda.
Nicola Pearson, head of change and knowledge transfer at CDBB’s International Programme, will look at how CDBB and the Construction Innovation Hub aim to support and deliver an International BIM Programme. While CDBB change consultant and former head of BIM for the UK BIM Task Group, David Philp, will be sharing plans for CDBB and the Construction Innovation Hub to support and deliver the UK BIM Programme. Both will be must attend sessions given the current climate.
Mark Ireland from the MTC will also be on hand to share insights into where robotics are being developed specifically to meet the challenges of the construction and infrastructure sector and also what technology is already available to be deployed in his session ‘Terminator or HAL – what does the future look like for robotics in construction’.
There will also be presentations from Bryden Wood, Skanska, Kier, IBM, BAM Nuttal, Tata Steel, nPlan, Turner Harris, Majenta Solutions, CITB and many more. To view the full seminar programme, please visit
