eMemory IP Garners Most Stringent Level of Certification for Automotive Applications

Hsinchu, Taiwan (September 9, 2019) –eMemory, the semiconductor industry’s leading provider of non-volatile memory intellectual property, has won key certifications for its technology in automotive applications. eMemory is the only company in the greater China region to receive these dual IP certifications.

The company’s NeoBit and NeoEE IP are certified for ISO 26262 ASIL D and IEC 61508 SIL3. TÜV Rheinland, an independent, internationally recognized testing laboratory, granted the certifications. TÜV Rheinland is the international certification body that governs functional safety in the automotive industry.

The ISO 26262 standard defines four automotive safety integrity levels (ASILs), namely A, B, C and D, with 'D' representing the most stringent level. IEC 61508 regulates the safety levels of electrical and electronic related software, hardware and systems, with SIL 3 being the highest level for a single product. eMemory’s products has received the ASIL D (ISO26262) and SIL 3 (IEC 61508) automotive safety certifications, which are both for high levels of stringency involving fatal injury. These certifications are applicable to automotive and industrial control products such as airbags, electronic brake systems and electronic brake force distribution systems.

“We are pleased that NeoBit and NeoEE IP have the ISO 26262 ASIL D and IEC 61508 SIL3 certifications,”said eMemory President Rick Shen. "Chipmakers can now use eMemory’s NVM IP solutions to meet their overall functional safety requirements for automotive applications.”

In automotive applications, high quality, high reliability and broad testability are a must. The IP embedded in automotive chips for code storage, trimming or setting must be designed especially for these needs. eMemory IP helps to solve these requirements for chip designers.

NeoBit is eMemory’s logic-compatible embedded one-time programmable solution. The IP has been widely adopted for various applications and shipped in more than 24 million wafers. It is available in around 50 Bipolar-CMOS-DMOS (BCD) process platforms worldwide for power management ICs and has been deployed in BCD platforms for automotive applications since 2009.

eMemory’s NeoEE is a reliable embedded EEPROM solution based on generic CMOS process technology that eliminates the need for additional masks and process steps. It supports low-power operation and good data retention at high temperature. The IP deploys easily in high voltage and BCD platforms tailored to automotive applications.

Foundries and fabless companies worldwide have adopted eMemory’s NVM solutions for a wide range of applications. Now that eMemory’s NVM solutions have achieved the most stringent level of automotive functional safety —ASIL D (ISO26262) and SIL 3 (IEC 61508)— more chip designers have an opportunity to tap strong growth in the automotive IC market.
